3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BreWedge (174) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - APR 13, 2013
On tap @ Big Rig Ottawa. Pours a dark chestnut brown with a minimal beige head. Aromas were subtle and not helped by the pilsner glass it was served in nor it being fairly cold. What I could discern was a light honey. Interesting contrast to the taste which did not have much in the way of sweetness. Tastes are roasty malts, dry and nutty with a bit of chocolate on the back end. Exceptionally light bodied for a stout, moderate carbonation, and a short dry finish. This was a nice refreshing beer but far from what I normally expect from a stout.

Drank on tap (12 oz) at the brewpub on February 27, 2013. Black, small head. Aroma of barley and chocolate malt, slightly sweet. Barley taste a little raw, not very rich, slightly bitter malt. A very easy to drink stout, even too much!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Metalchopz (1753) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 18, 2013
Originally rated July 2012. This is my first brew from this new brewpub in my region. Pours a dark brown colour with a small white cap, but decent lacing. Aromas of roasted malts with notes of chocolate and hop. Average mouthfeel. The taste is pretty much the same as the nose; chocolate, roasted malts and hops. Decent balanced stout between the malt and hop, that is still refreshing.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bunget (319) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 19, 2012
On tap at the brewpub. Surprisingly light colour, deep red-brown body, residual 1-2 ml beige foam. This is the lightest stout I’ve seen so far. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, cocoa and a touch of woodiness. Taste dominated by strong espresso, caramel, roasted malt and wood charcoal. Almost completely flat, but with a decent dryness. A little too watery.

Black but not opaque, small beige head. Good roasty aroma, subtle cocoa. Light mouthfeel, and a solid carb. Medium bitterness, light chocolate, solid roast. Decent.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Lubiere (8247) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 8, 2012
A dark brown stout with a thin light brown head. In aroma, a smooth fruity chocolate malt with light grassy coffee notes. In mouth, a bitter metallic chocolate with lingering burned notes, a bit harsh and unpleasant. On tap at brewpub, July 7 2012.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rejtable (812) - Ontario, CANADA - JUN 23, 2012
Decent but nothing too special. Served WAY too cold. Pours very dark brown. Nose is pretty muted, maybe some coffee and some metallic. Initial tastes are coffee, some lighter chocolate and roasted cereal with a bit of a metallic backing. Finish is very light bitter. Body is very light with lively carbonation. Nothing outstanding about the beer but I’d have it again.

Stopped in to try some beer but it was pretty busy so just grabbed a growler of the stout (they have some beers in bottle but no mixer packs yet). Brown with a tan head that fades very quickly to nothing. Fair amount of roasted malts, some light cocoa. Light body, moderate carbonation, slight bitterness with some vegetable notes, more cocoa on the finish and it becomes quite dry. An ok offering but I understand why this would be the standard stout considering the market this is for - have more hope, for my tastes, on some of the special offerings (I think they have a heffe right now) as they are meant to be more experimental - but we’ll see. Regardless the more brewpubs in the area the better and I will always support local beer!
