COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A two time medalist, this opaque black stout is boldly aggressive with a roasted flavor stemming from rich UK malt. Iron Horse Stout was awarded the top medal in the 1998 World Beer Cup Competition in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and the bronze medal in the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2008 on draught. Pours an opaque black with a picturesque, frothy tan head. There’s a fair amount of roasted aroma over the musty barley and a bit of sweet cream. The palate is silky but thick, and the flavor has ample truck-stop coffee and a thinner cream sweetness. The semi-dry dark chocolate finish pulls this stout together. It’s slightly thinner than I’d like for a stout to be and has a borderline English porter feel.

From a growler: This is a really good looking beer. It’s near black and has a creamy, even, long lasting dark tan head. The aroma is inviting with plenty of oats, chocolate, and an almost smoky bittersweetness. Palate on this one is nice and creamy with very low carbonation. I get hearty chocolate, medium roasted coffee, a bit of oats, and a nicely sharp finish. This is pretty enjoyable. I had no problem finishing the growler.

Pours near black. Good lacing. Light aroma of roasted grain. Taste is malty sweet forward with a smoked bitterness at the finish which also has the sweetness linger. I like this type of stout.

Great coffee aroma with a red black color and thin white lacing. Full on the palate with strong coffee notes. Probably the most flavorfull of the beer selections. Great in cold weather.

Gift from SJ. A little thin for a stout. What I did like was the nice roasted malt and nut combination. And it had a decent chocolate aroma. I just wish it was a bit thicker.

On tap at The Boardwalk at Disney, pours pitch Black with a nice creamy malty head. Aroma is all chocolate with hint of caramel. Smooth taste , with hints of roasted coffee and chocolate. Finish is mild, ok when your at Disney, and you are surrounded by Miller and Bud. Quaff Score 6 / 10

On draft at Seven Bridges in Jacksonville. Pours a dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is a nice amount of roast, dark chocolate, hints of black coffee, and earth. Flavor is similar with dark flavors all around- dark chocolate, roasted malts, and hints of earthy coffee. Medium in body for a stout with such low alcohol, and nice overall.

On tap @ Chattanooga. Pours a mahogany black with a nice head and good lacing. Big toasted malt aroma with some cocoa and coffee. Taste is creamy and smooth with a good dose of semi-sweet chocolate and some coffee malts then a bit of hops and fruitiness. This is the best of the Big River Brews - should be their Flagship Brand. Very nice.
