UPDATED: JUN 6, 2009 On tap at Big Rock. Pours a pale, cloudy gold with thin white head. Aroma evident of citrus hops, pine, and oak. Flavor is similar with a bitterness that I can’t quite place. Strong IPA and very pleasant.

MBG 7-21-06. Copper with no head whatsoever. Huge citrus up front, sweet and zesty at the same time. Not much bourbon in nose. Flavor much different than aroma suggests. Quick hit of citrus and bourbon takes over. Very hot alcohol and bourbon finish.

This draft brew from a festival poured a head of frothy medium sized bubbles that was fully diminished and left behind a hazy softly carbonated light orange brown colored body. The strong aroma was bourbon. The mouth feel was smooth at the start and mediumly tingly at the finish with a hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt hops and bourbon that comes on strong and wont let go. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

Tap at MBG fest ’06. Modestly hazy and golden colored. Big citric hop aroma floats off the top, not a lot of bourbon presence in the nose. Medium bodied, slightly boozy. Nice mix of citrus/piney hop flavors and the vanilla/bourbon. Interesting take.

Draft. Small head that quickly dissipated, no visible carbonation, no laciing, transparent, and a light orange hue. Nose was hoppy, bourbon, grapefruit, vanilla, and oak. Flavor was hoppy, vinuous and subtle malt. Smooth, vinuous palate. Light body. A decent IPA, but think it needs some tweaking.

Draught at 2006 MBG Summer Festival. Pours a hazy orange with no head. Aroma: smells like an IPA with bourbon -- duh! I like it though. Really juicy flavour of citrus hops, bourbon, some sweet malt. Light to medium bodied. Interesting, and I liked it, but I would have preferred less bourbon in the flavour.

Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Ugh, notes were getting pretty sketchy and messy by this point in the day - let’s see what I can make out here: "Reddish-orange - interesting combo of hops, smoke and bourbon in the aroma and flavour - some herbal notes in the finish - I liked this!". Alright, not bad considering I was well on my way to being drunk off my ass!

Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Slightly hazy orange, fairly flat-looking, very small head. Aroma of oak, vanilla and bourbon, hops (slightly funky/sour), some citrus. Taste of orange zest and bourbon, with herbal hops - interesting, but not really well blended or balanced. Average IPA body, light woody astringency, the wood really dominates the finish. An interesting experience, I don’t think this is entirely successful, but much, much better than I thought it would be.

Michigan BGF 06, Day 2: Clean deep golden hue with very little head. The nose detected a hoppy grassy and grapefruit vapor along with pepper, woody oak, vanilla, bourbon, and finally some dusty yeast esters. The flavor profile displayed bourbon over snappy bitters, I dug it more it warming and I adjusted. The finish is almost wheat-like in it’s nature. There is a nice smooth oily feel on the palate (more akin to an American Strong Ale than IPA). Again not as impressive at the start than it was once you got through the initial hit of bourbon.

Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Was intrigued to try this one as I had not tried anyone doing an IPA in a barrel before. Orange headless body. Woody sweet orange citrus aroma. Lots of woody bourbon in the flavour with more sweet citrus and some sweet malt that gets washed out by the barrel a bit. Average palate. Very unbalanced, but quite interesting. Another one that might be improved by a shorter visit to the barrel. 7/3/7/3/16
