I can see how some would say this beer has way too much bourbon and isn’t balanced at all. That person would call this a hot mess. Well, I guess that’s just what I like. An in your face Bourbon stout that doesn’t pull any punches. wow!!!!!!!!

2009 edition. Small nip bottle (it says 355 ml, but the bottle is tiny, more like 7-8 ounces no way 12). Bottle thanks to FlandersNed. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head. A great nose; sweet cocoa, bourbon, sweet vanilla, more bourbon. The flavor is great; initial cocoa and milky chocolates, rich vanilla and sweet bourbon, light sweeter malts. Rich and big. A great imperial stout. Tastes old somehow. Light mouthfeel .

12 oz bottle, brewed 2005. Dark brown with some creamy tan edging. Nose is bourbon, dark chocolate and vanilla with a touch of tar. Coating with a bracing tang. Prominent alcohol but not objectionable. Taste starts with a slap of bourbon; woody, prunes, dates and chocolate but not so sweet. Finishes with citrus peel, tobacco and burnt sugar. Great barrel aging.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2011 (Bottle marked 11/09 thanks to blutt59) Pours jet black with tan bubbles. Nose of vanilla, coffee, and sweet chocolate. Taste of bakers chocolate, caramel, cream, cocoa, with a thick and sweet finish with a moderate amount of bitterness. Slightly syrupy too. Rating: 8-4-7-3-15

(12oz bottle from the brewer - Re-Rate! deep ruby/brown with a ring of tan bubbles. Nose of rich maple, waffles, bourbon, rich chocolate. Taste of alcohol, maple, waffles, bourbon, rich chocolate, very decadent! Vanilla here too, so complex and flavorful. Thick body, coffee, vanilla, well carbonated, and an absolutely spot-on palate finish. Age has really done wonders for this beer. Now the 2009 vintage I would rate as: 8-4-8-5-17
