Manhattan Cask Fest: Rusty copper pour. The aroma is acetic and chemical ridden with acetone notes and subtle caramel in the background. The flavor is homogeneous and very chemically. Tons of acetone, with a under-ripened tart fig note and subtle lactic/pedio character. Pretty weak and underdeveloped.

Sample @ MBGSF 08 (from notes). Pours a hazy dark amber color with a small white head. The aroma is sour fruity with sweet Belgian sugar. Additional notes of yeast, light funk, and a general earthy quality. The flavor has a base of pale malt, light caramel, tart/sour fruits that comes off as acidic. Touches of spice and earthy at times. At the same time this is rather easy to drink. Not my favorite of the fest, but a nice beer nonetheless.

On tap @ Pizza Plant Walker. Pours a darker amber. Really tart & sour. Nice mouthfeel. Flavor is ther but needs some blance. Got a lot better as it went

Chelsea Cask Fest. One of the few beers that survived, and certainly one of the best. Lightly tart aroma, a lot of peanut, chemicals, pine, butter. Flavor has a wheaty peanut, light tart, a lot of diacetyl. Tastes American wild fermented, which is not always a good thing. Pretty decent though. Would like to try on tap.

Manhattan Cask fest. Deep amber beer. Aroma is quite nice... softly lactic/funky tartness. Some cherry and other sweet stone fruits with a soft chewy sweetness. Light oaky sweetness with a soft funkiness. The flavour is less intense than the aroma, but it’s still quite nice. There is a bit of ketone-like solvent notes, but it’s still okay. Soft tartness. It’s not bad at all.

Sampled at Manhattan Cask Fest - hazy red beer - a bit of acetone in the aroma, but it is easy to overlook, as some oak, light cherry, and some vinegar-like acidity cover it up pretty well - light body - medium dry, with moderate acidity - acetone is more powerful in the flavor than in the aroma - light oak and very young funkiness - some yogurt-like character on the back end - decent, but that acetone flavor detracts quite a bit from the enjoyment - maybe with some more age on it, it might get better?

MBG summer fest 08’. Amber with not much of a head. Aroma was nice acidic funk, oak, with some balancing belgian sweetness. Taste was much the same, not as sour as it smelled, and more belgian sugar and malt characteristics showing up, with the oak coming through as well. Nicely balanced overall. Good stuff.

2008 MiBGF: Coppery amber hue with a small head. The aroma has notes of sour apples, a hint of barnyard funk, a bit of Belgian sugar, oak, and earthy esters. The taste starts twangy and acidic with fruity notes. Supported by pale and caramel malts. A tad woody and spicy upon the finish. The mouth feel is refreshing and lively. A very good beer.
