yjb (108), Bloomington, Indiana, USA May 13, 2008 A true dream.. a noble ale, best I’ve had in style. Strong malt character and a light roasted feel make this crisp, clean beer truly noble. Highly recommended. [Big Rock was a duper pleasant surprise., my guess is that they will underwhelm in a large beerfest or drinking night, as their subtlety will be outmuscled. But today, this beer was dead on!!!] Styles (1653), Taylor, Michigan, USA Dec 27, 2007 7-22-06 MBG. Dark mahogany/brown with off-white head. Faint fruity esters up front, before huge smoked/peat malt character takes over. Flavor has a nice caramel/toffee base with smoke/peat taking over through the middle and finish. Residuel sugar/resin aftertaste. Another nice brew from Big Rock. 11026 (1886), USA Dec 23, 2006 Tap at MBG fest ’06. Medium brown colore, light opacity. Yeasty/malty aroma, fairly rich. Medium bodied. Malty with light roast flavor. A bit thin in middle and finish but quite passable. thedm (3406), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 26, 2006 This draft brew from a festival poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light tan colored bubbles that was mostly diminishing and left behind a and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty mildly vinous and sweet. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The weak flavor contained notes of malt and sweet. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again. hotstuff (3045), Indiana, USA Sep 20, 2006 Ivory small head that mostly dimiinished, sparse lacing, transparent, and an orange brown hue. Nose was malty, caramel, sweet and yes some hints of scotch. Ditto for the flavor with the alcohol duly noted, but not overly done. Smooth palate. Light-medium body. Quaffable and I would partake in this one again.
