Full-bodied ale has a rich copper colour and a spicy-bouquet. A must try for the wine enthusiast.

Why oh why did they stop shipping Big Rock beers to K.C. I loved this one! It was almost a staple, in fact.

The Magpie has a lot going on, very complex for a beer. It is full and copper and has good notes of spice to it and a decent finish.

Colour: Light orange and peach, with a slightly low but bubbly head. Nose: Crutons, soft leather, summer spruce leaves & bark, the slightest hint of peach (must be why the colour looks that way!) Taste: Medium sweet, light sour, light bitter. semi-sweet chocolate chips, caramalized roasted malt, rich and thunderous rye grain, pancake batter. Finish is lingering grain. Quite enjoyable.

Nice light amber color with a moderate head. Malt sweetness from the rye really comes through along with the slipper feel.

Still some bottles of this kicking around I guess! Although I’m not sure how old this actually is. Dark amber brown with spicy sweet notes that are hard to pin down. Slightly sweet flavours of caramel, brown sugar, and an estery wheat-like note, and again the sweet spiciness that’s hard to pin down (different from a weizen, that’s for sure). I’m sad that this one has been retired! I even have a perma-plaqued poster of this beer from my university days.

2010 tap sample off the new pilot brewery. Amber. I liked it at first sip. Rye gives a nice pepperiness. Its like an aggressive alternative to an IPA for a nice thinking beer.

I don’t know who said this was retired...I had a pint at Gambrinus last night. Poured a clear copper-gold with a decent tight pored cap that retained well. Nice spicey rye malt aroma, sharp saaz hopping in the nose. Light bodied but flavorful for a commercial rye...spicey sharp, crisp clean...easy drinking ,nice flavorful quencher.

341ml brown bottle. Pours dark gold-light orange. Head is white and fades quickly. Nose has a bit of bread/dough, just a bit of sweetness and some detectable rye grains. Flavor is also doughy and bready with some up front grain sweetness. Some light fruitiness. Finishes with a bit of a rye kick, light spice, lingering grains and light bitterness and decent dryness. Average body and carbonation. Overall a nice rye pale ale, one of the few beers Big Rock makes that I would buy again.

Beautiful light orange color, beer was a bit too cold so there was little carbonation and aroma. Taste seems a bit bitter for an ale, but not too bad. Ok beer.

Deep clear gold, vanishing white head. Malty caramel nose, tastes of caramel malts, spice and some fruit... an I & G wannabe?
