3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gregory (357) - Pullman, Washington, USA - AUG 7, 2002
Very good. Well balanced. It didn’t strike me as a Irish Ale as I was drinking it, I thought it was more likely an amber. But all in all very good.

Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is
medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly hoppy
(resin), with notes of peach, butterscotch, and honey. Flavor is moderately sweet,
lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly bitter, lightly
acidic. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation.

Wonderful brew! I first sampled this beer while dining in Waterton Park just north of Glacier National Park and remember it as much as the beautiful scenery. I fell in love with it and visited several stores until I found some to bring home. It is a lot better on tap (aren’t they all) and the bottled brews were much more tart and bitting than the smooth draft. So if you are in Canada, and find it on tap, Enjoy!!

One of the better Canadian beers. Nice balance of flavours considering it’s higher (7%)alcohol content.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2003 The beer pours a clear dark amber color with a modest in size head that is frothy in texture and the color a light tan, as the head erodes, it leaves behind a fine sheet of lace to cover the glass. Nose is malt dominated, somewhat sweet, crisp and fresh with the start having a nice malt profile, top is a bit thin for me, but acceptable nonetheless. Finish is biting in its acidity, hops are apparent, but not overpowering, dry and lingering aftertaste, a fine drinking beer, which is nice as it does show up on the shelves here every so often.

Quite an interesting offering from Big Rock. Although the name refers to an Irish style, the beer is almost Belgian-like. At 7% ABV it has candy malt notes with a strong alcoholic flavour.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 28, 2000
A little bit overrated these days. I find the malt flavours to be more simplistic than they used to be, and butteriness could be toned down a bit.
