naoss (12), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jan 11, 2007 Nice medium brown. Clean and clear. Sweet..no bitterness. This is one of my regular beers at the local pub. It’s always on tap pretty much anywhere in Calgary, good price, and easy drinking. Aroma is all malts, but quite pleasant. Taste is reminiscent of hard rock candy with caramel malts, and there are plenty of malts to be found here. The hops, while present, are well hidden in what is a very sweet amber ale. I enjoyed this much more than I expected to. murswan (2), Canada does not count Nov 20, 2006 Excellent flavor with a nice aroma. Great with meats and great to use in sauces...a little fake in the in the true sense of dark ales but its nice because you can drink more than a couple harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 15, 2006 On tap at The Railway Club, Vancouver. Amber, thin beige head. Quite nice fruit on aroma. Closest thing to an English beer so far on this trip. Slight yeast, good malt, like a British best bitter on the aroma. Some caramel. Malty fruit in mouth is very pleasant.Hopevidenced on end balances the malt well. I like it. Uncomplicated bitter. LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada Oct 3, 2006 I really liked this amber offering from Big Rock. Lot’s of malty flavourings with a hint of sweetness. A perfect autumn beer. Nice dark amber colour with white head. Very tasty. I actually pounded this one back almost too fast to rate it properly. I may have to re-rate soon to give it real justice. KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Sep 29, 2006 bottle: This amber ale tilts towards the dark malt side of things. Very smooth - the hops won’t overwhelm here. Dark copper, thin head. Sweet ale with dark fruit or sugar notes. Not a bitter beer by any stretch. OK for the drinkers frightened by true ales but why would a real ale drinker choose this? Good beer but don’t see the point of this stylle as not many levels of taste here. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 27, 2006 Bottle.
Mild aroma of fruit with roasted nut overtones. Flavor is reasonable enough, some gentle fruity tones, caramel, very restrained aftertaste. Fairly prickly mouthfeel
Perfectly drinkable and perfectly enjoyable but not necessarily one to seek out again.
