draught. Amber-ruby colour. Aroma of malts, some corn. Taste is sweet, needs more hops. I used to think this was pretty good, but I was underwhelmed this time.

On tap. Dark amber, spongy cream coloured head. Smells like cereal, caramel, dark berries, a little nutty. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Something about the character of the bitter malt that I’m really not loving. Other than that, inoffensive. Very standard amber ale. 15 years ago in Manitoba I used to drink this stuff by the gallon. My how craft brew has upped its ante. Pretty sure I’ll never order this again...

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - SEP 14, 2011
Originally rated April 2006. Big Rock describes this one as an English Brown Ale. Pours a beautiful rich dark copper colour with an off-white bubbly head. Retention is fairly low, but lacing is decent. The nose is malty with some grains, and notes of berries. Watery mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Very low carbonation. The taste starts off on a slightly bitter edge and finishes with mild roasted malt. Touch of caramel are found, and so is grain malt. Nicely balance being not really sweet, and not too bitter. A good darker session ale.
