COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Faced with long winter nights, Scots are like to seek courage in fine whiskey and strong ale. But where does the Canadian turn for a warm belly on a snowy evening? Ach, no less to the "wee heavy," a strong Scottish ale aged slowly in oak and emboldened with strong flavours and full body fit for hearty drinkers. "Heavy" is no mere moniker, though Brewmaster Paul chose to temper his ale’s strength to a sensible 7%, leaving a bonnie 92% for flavour. And 1% for your Scottish brogue. Tak’ a wee swallaw an’ see.

Draft sample. Pale amber in colour with moderate carbonation. Muted aromas are a mix of nutty and sweet malts, a bit of booze, and faint fruit. Malt forward in the mouth as well, with a bit of toasted nut, caramel pudding, and herbs. Watery mouthfeel with a short finish. Definitely on the bland side, but not bad overall.

sweet malty caramel and cherries in the nose. Sweet malty mouth, a touch too sweet but nice cherry and milk chocolate taste. A touch yeasty. Caramel finish.

Thanks to Derek for this. Pours almost cola brown with a slight white ring. Aroma is vintage scottish spicy malts and a hint of hop. Taste is a hair booze with sweet spice malt. Solid heavy.

On tap. Amber with a quick fading light tan head. Grains and malt, some peat and scotch, bit of oak and alcohol. Average carbonation, decent body, somewhat bitter throughout, finish becomes more dry with some malt, spice, hops and the peat/scotch that underlines the entire beer.

The pour is a light amber with an almost non-existant light beige head. Some carbonation in the body with no lacing as the head dies instantly. The nose is sweet and malted well with a nice woody aroma and light scotch whisky nose. A mild hop on the nose as well. The taste has a good malt and a beautiful scotch taste with a prominent wood and toasty biscuit malt. A lightly bittered finish and a mild scotch aftertaste. Overall, a well malted and tasty brew. Finally Big Rock puts out a good brew. Now they just need to figure out how to brew a good hoppy brew.

341ml brown bottle. Pours out deep orange brown shade, clear. Fizzy off white head which disappears completely and offers no lacing. Nose has some sweet toffee, brown sugar, faint woody note, faint vanilla. Flavour has toffee/caramel sweetness, light wood and peat. Malty finish, some earth and whiskeyish vanilla sweetness, and woody aftertaste. Medium bodied, a little oily, average carbonation. Best Big Rock offering I’ve had in a long time.

341mL bottle poured a reddish-brown color with small white head and no lacing. Aroma is light roasted malt with some peaty smokiness and oak. Taste is big malty sweetness followed by some smokiness and a mild hoppy finish. A decent beer, but there are much better scotch style ales out there.
