3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 jstraw (1210) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 18, 2012
Draft at Jerry’s. Amber with big, foamy, off-white head / Light, earthy nose of spice, grain, and medicine / Medium body, creamy with soft carbonation, especially astringent with a hint of sweetness, and very bitter, somewhat hot finish / Dry, mild flavors of grain, cardboard, spun sugar, and what tastes like rye spice / Somethings not quite right with this one.

On draught at o’Neill’s beer dinner. Pours a deep copper color with lasting white head. Mild Belgian yeast aromas. Medium body. Interesting blend of dark malts and complex yeast flavors. Underlying dry malty flavor. Nice full mouthfeel. A lot of flavors working.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Glouglouburp (4780) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 5, 2012
In short: An overly sweet fruity blonde ale. Meh
How: Bottle 750ml. Bottle #975. Consumed almost 1 year after the beer release (I’m assuming it was only brewed once). Bottle sent to me by Savvy1982, not your fault Kyle!
The look: Cloudy peach color body topped by a persistent creamy white head
In long: Nose is sweet apples, some phenols, dry grass, dust. Taste is sickeningly sweet, uber-sweet canned fruits (pears, peaches, etc) along with the juice they swim in, sweetened orange peels, some booze, refined white sugar. There seems to be something fun and maybe rustic happening with the yeast but the sweetness overwhelms everything. While attempting to drink this bottle I took a sip from the glass of the regular La Chouffe my wife was drinking and La Chouffe felt bone dry (and La Chouffe is really not bone dry). Just when you think that McDonald’s and country music were the worst creations in American history, someone decides to make a disgustingly sweet boozy 11% Saison and someone else record a Christmas country songs album.

Draught. Should saison be imperial? Lekker full spicy aroma. Full bodied, without an alcohol burn. Fruity and spicy flavour, with a cloudy orange colour. Drink this.

Clear, vigorous carbonation. Loose white head. Smells sweetish, lightly sugary and spicy. Tastes sweet, way too heavy, and some boozy, spicy, herbal notes. To quote Photokut, tastes like you’re trying to drink incense.

2010 750ml btl 831/1200 - Devil of a time getting the cage off. Had to use pliers. Then had to use a wine bottle opener to get the cork out. HUGE pop behind that. Pours great big frothy head. Not much lace as head falls. Body is dark gold with dusting od sediment. Big nose of yeast at first. Navel orange rind aroma. Flavors of honey and black cherries. aftertaste of black licorice. Slight warming of the throat. I know this was a special brew, but I hope they add it as an offering!
