Bottle from Total Wine in Roseville, CA. Pours very black with a creamy, 3 finger, dark tan head. Very nice chocolate nose. Medium plus body with foamy carbonation. It’s chocolate, very, with some coffee that comes out. Nicely bitter finish. Pretty good stuff.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tmoreau (1346) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - FEB 8, 2010
12oz. shared bottle. Poured a black/brown, with dark tan/light brown, frothy foam to the head and average cling to the lacing. The aroma and the flavor were similar notes of roasty and smooth malt, coffee and chocolate/mocha, and a touch of caramel. Moderately hop bitter, the beer then finished on a lightly dry note. The color and abv suggested Robust, but all other notes were subdued enough to claim Brown Porter status. Tasty nonetheless.

On tap @ Papago. Pours deep reddish brown with a half finger tan head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee and cocoa. The taste is ash, baker’s chocolate, slightly sour lactic acid and light roast coffee. Thinner mouthfeel than I expected, but still a tasty Porter.

Bottle: The aroma has lots of chocolate, light vanilla, roasted coffee, and the slightest hint of nuts. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts light dark chocolate and just a touch of vanilla. The finish has some light roasted coffee and a hint if nuttiness. Light -medium bodied with mild carbonation.

12-oz bottle from Binny’s in Orland Park, IL: It poured an opaque, nearly black body with a thick brown head but left little lace. The aroma is a blending of coffee, milk chocolate, and dark caramel... which pretty much describes the flavor. I’m not sure what makes this a robust porter, but it is a tastily drinkable brew.

Black pour with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, some coffee. Rich roasted malt flavor, almost a burnt flavor. It has a nice aftertaste. Very tasty. Glad I bought a 6.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark black with fuller looking body as it makes its way from bottle to snifter forming a good looking rich dark orangish tan head. Almost looks like an imperial stout. Big old nose on this one...dark chocolate malted milk ball and coffee is the first thing that hits me. Touch of vanilla and a bit of dry earthy hay notes. Smells promising! Really kind of dry, chalky and bitter up front. Thin in the middle and finishes up with a touch of metallic and then with a grassy/earthy hop bitterness heavily dusted in unsweetened super dark bitter chocolate. The appearance and nose on this is great and I had high hopes that it would be anywhere close to a Founders Porter...too bad the flavor never came together.

12. Pours a nearly opaque black with a dense, creamy dark tan head and tons of sheeting, stringy lacing. Big dry semi-sweet chocolate nose. Mild roast and coffee under that. Thick, dense, creamy body showing a little bit of grain with it. Chocolate, roast, biscuit, and light earthy hop at the finish. This is a nice porter with a lot of body and good forward flavors. I didn’t think Big Sky would push this hard on a porter at this ABV, but they put their backs into it with this one.

12 ounce bottle from brewforia. Pours a very dark brown with a tiny brown head. A sweet nose of coffee, milky notes and roasted malts. A nice flavor of chocolate and brown malts, loads of dominant milky coffee flavors, sweet vanilla and coffee. Nice and easygoing.
