3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour is a cloudy blond with a huge white head. Aroma is hoppy, yeast phenols with and odd soapyness. Flavor is yeasty a minor hop and grainy. Not enough of the Belgain estery, spicy peppery thing going on but it was kinda headed in the right direction.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle purchased at Berkeley Bowl. It pours a nice clear golden color with a fluffy white head. The aroma jumps out as fresh multigrain bread with some orange and spices. Really digging this grainy/malty aroma. The flavor is similar with lots of wheat and rye with a good subdued spicy, peppery finish. I would’ve liked it a tad drier with a lighter crisper body, but this is a pretty decent drinkable Saison not being heavy or sweet. Nice.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Not the best saison. Stale and lacking the tartness of the best of them. Hops are understated, as is the alcohol content.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle: Pours a flat golden color with two fingers of fluffy white head. Light farmhouse style aroma; dry and dusty, yeast, light florals, and citrus. Flavor is maltier than expected and it compliments a grainy presence. Sweet, but not cloying. The yeast and florals remain too. The last lingering flavor is of bananas… not a bad way to finish. Sessionable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 7/12/2013. Pours hazy bright golden amber color with a 2-3 finger fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, clove, pepper, grass, banana, bread, wheat, floral, herbal, light bubblegum, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of yeast ester notes with light malt balance; and good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, clove, banana, pepper, wheat, bread, pepper, grass, floral, light bubblegum, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, clove, pepper, bread, wheat, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors with a light bready malt balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very crisp, prickly, and smooth mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice saison! All around nice balance and complexity of yeast ester flavors; and smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Blonde rust. Gentle pour raises a voluminous cap of lathery white froth. Brightly estery and intensely peppery nose, with fresh flowers, white pepper phenolics, pineapple upside-down cake, and puttylike yeast. Hint of gum, sulfur, clove, and banana bread. Soft, fine carbonation. Quite snappy from the start, with a firm and dry maltiness charged with a moderately phenolic, white pepper vivacity. Splash of peach puree gels with a subdued tartness and wheatlike twang to gently temper the phenols and deepen the predominantly stiff texture with a pleasant succulence. Malt comes off as a mixed bag as its coarse graininess sporadically hints at burnt breadcrust, but at the same time showcases some softer candied pecan, baguette, and toasted hay qualities. Saccharine-like sweetness makes a very subtle appearance and robs some of the soulful rusticity. Relatively clean, otherwise. Herbal, aniseedy hop briskness balances the ongoing assortment of slippery fruity esters. Finishes quite woody and earthy, with plenty of candied pecan edges to match the grassy and herbaceous hop punch. A very respectable yeast-driven rendition which tips its hat to the traditional saisons of the world. Fairly rustic in character, well-attenuated, textbook appearance, fluffy mouthfeel, and very quaffable thanks to the exemplary balance. Not exactly great, but considering the brewery this is shockingly serviceable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle poured into a Christoffel thin tulip glass. Pretty fresh beer, just got to town. Pours is nice with vigorous carbonation visible in the golden beer that creates a medium thick head with very long retention. Generally speaking this is a banana ester rich beer, not as strong as Chimay but still strong. However, it is well attenuated, not sweet. Yeasty dough around with some herb and spice off the yeast as well. I like it b/c I am a fan of banana esters but I understand why this beer is scoring lower. In general, for this brewer its a very nice accomplishment. Usually Belgians come off too estery or too sweet but this isn’t. For the price of a six pack its a very good deal.
