   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 10/20
Wittales (649) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - MAY 22, 2013
Appearance was cloudy light golden with diminishing white creamy 1 finger head, hints of lacing. Aromas are stale bread, citrus fruits, dirty socks, funky yeasts. Taste are grainy wheat, slight pils or pale malts. Lemony hops and then funky sour barnyard, not in good way. Palate was soft creamy co2 with light body, citrusy, medincial stale bread lasting unbalanced finish. Not my cup of tea...

Poured from bottle into snifter...a beautiful poor by the way, very photogenic. Cloudy bright gold with a good, lasting white head. Floral and citrus nose. Great body and feel...leaves a soured aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy copper with a nice head. Nose is mild citrus and some fruit. Taste is also very mild...citrus and some breadiness. Tart on the backend.

$7.20 for a 6’er of this at WinCo of all places... Great deal! Pours into my HotD goblet with a 2 finger white head.. nice retention, but only splotchy lacing... the brew is hazed straw golden. The aromas are only okay in the traditional saison realm.. grainy/wheat malt presence.. I guess some minor peppery phenols, but no real fruity esters.. seems too malt dominant for a "saison". Could use any sort of Belgian esters. Very grainy on the palate.. not as dry on the palate as expected for the style.. light yeasty peppery quality.. perhaps some minor clove and even some bandaid. Wheat malt lays down a minor (very minor) tartness, but there is no yeasty sour notes to speak of. Body is thick for a saison.. the residual malts left on the palate accentuate this... and the carbonation isn’t really that good either. Despite all my above negatives, I see what the good folks at Big Sky were trying to accomplish and I would suggest a very different yeast. But for what this is, it is very, very refreshing and unlike anything the other breweries have in the cooler right now.... I will certainly buy it again... This should have been released in late spring.. Late night fire-pit parties, afternoon yard-work, and camping/fishing/hot-springing with an interesting/individual brew. Decent... I see the bones; but this should have been more adventurous and it would have been great (especially in a 6-pack).

Twelve ounce bottle, a limited release. Pours a cloudy golden color, with a long lasting white head. Aroma is thinly of hops. Taste is typical of a Saison. Good flavor, but this isn’t my favorite style. Thumbs up.

Clear Yellow Color, with Huge Long Lasting Foamy Head that Leaves Lots Of Lacing. Citrus, Wheat sour, yeast, light bitter finish. Light Body. Just OK for me.

Pour to snifter. Light, golden color. Nothing complex--thin on fruit or spiciness. Just OK.

Brush Tail left me underwhelmed. It’s a sad thing, too. I like this brewery and I love farmhouse ales. I tend to be fairly open-minded when it comes to this category because these beers are so diverse. While Brush Tail offers some flavor of yeast and smoke, there’s just not enough. A farmhouse ale has to have big, mature flavors, and Brush Tail simply doesn’t offer that. Still, for a 12 ounce version, it isn’t awful.
