Bottle from Bottleworks. Pours pretty dark brown/black with a foamy/frothy 3 finger darkish tan head. Aroma of coffee understudied by chocolate. Med body. Flavor is coffee, with some medium dark chocolate. It’s fairly bitter, though from burnt malt or hop I do not now. Pretty good stuff.

Bottle. Pour is deep brown, black when sitting in glass with a nice tan frothy head and some lacing as well. Aroma is fresh brewed coffee with some burnt roasted malt as well. Taste is more coffee and malt which is nice and smooth. Palate is medium mouthfeel with a dingle carbonation and chaulky finish. Awesome porter, keep it up Big Sky!

Nose is black coffee, a light creaminess, and some fruity yeasty esters which I found slightly odd. Pours dark brown, head settles to a beige ring. The flavor is akin to black coffee with some fruity esters and light sweetness. Finishes dry, lightly bitter, nice creamy body. Not bad, but the fruity esters threw me off a bit.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2011 Draft at the brewery taproom. Black body, frothy brown head. Aroma of pretty heavy coffee with some milky sweetness. Taste is bold coffee with some chocolate malt, bitter finish. Medium body, medium carbonation. Got a growler of this and killed it pretty quick..... Bottle. It has a little less coffee flavor and aroma. Still good though.

12 oz bottle into English pint. My bottle reads 6.2% ABV. Pours a dark, dark brown that lets a little bit of light through when held up to the light. Has a fast disappearing tan head that leaves some sticky lace. Smells of freshly roasted black coffee (no surprise). Taste is bittersweet and a little sour. Carbonation is medium, body is medium-full. Nice beer here, have no fear for the coffee and beer are here.

12 oz. bottle- Immediate coffee aroma as soon as I poured, chocolate malt is also present, appearance is black with red highlights at the base of the glass, it has a creamy tan head and average lacework. The taste is bitter up front followed by coffee, black coffee, not sissy espresso. A creaminess sets in then finishes bitter again. I wish it was less bitter, but overall a decent beer.

Draft. Nice coffee aroma. Coffee and sweet chocolate up front, roasted malts, just a hint of smoke. No real bitterness, slightly chalky. Thinner mouthfeel than expected, chocolate lingers on finish. Enjoyable coffee beer.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2011 EDIT: wow, my bottle experience was severely lacking! not bad overall, but nothing like my tap experience below in which i absolutely loved this brew. in a bottle this was VERY average. lowering my rating from a 4.0 to 3.6 one of the best coffee stouts i’ve ever had. silky, creamy, smooth. little bit of chocolate. doesnt taste like a very high abv, but very enjoyable.

Actual title is ’Cowboy Coffee Porter’, on tap at the Big Sky Taproom, tried a sample, bought a growler. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a thin tan head. Coffee flavor is certainly there, as is some chocolate. This one is fairly rich, and smoothly drinkable. Thumbs up.
