3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Suttree (3925) - Knoxville, USA - AUG 22, 2011
Probably my favorite of the low-grav stuff at the Big Sky tasting. Smells like coffee and..uh...coffee, I guess. Taste is coffee, as well, but mixed with a little bit of chocolate and bit of dry red wine. I liked this stuff.

Bottle thanks to fata2683: Poured a midnight black with two finger tan to light brown head. Aroma is strong with rich bakers chocolate and mild coffee. Taste is nice soft chocolate, some burnt roasted malt, and just a hint of coffee.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best by 4/27/2011. Pours very dark brown, almost black color with a nice 2 finger light tan head with good retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent lacing clings to the glass as you drink. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, coffee, toasted grain, bread, and a touch of herbal hops. Nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of big espresso, chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, biscuit, toffee, and herbal hops. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and herbal hops on the finish for a bit. Nice balance of flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Very smooth and drinkable at 6.2%, with not alcohol presence at all. Overall this is a very nice porter, with nice robust flavors and very smooth drinking. Really enjoyed this one.

Thanks to fata2683 for this one in trade. Cheers, Keith! Pours a dark porter brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, hints of spice, some earth, some licorice, and some ash. Flavor is a nice mild roast with black coffee, chicory, some earth, and a twinge of milky spice. Light to medium in body with a pleasant earthy, slightly sweet coffee throughout. Pretty nice porter.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 5, 2011
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into tall glass.
Appearance: Pitch black with moderate tan head and some nice lacing.
Aroma: Somewhat sweet chocolate and coffee, with roasted barley and molasses.
Taste: Chocolate, coffee and molasses round out the roasted malt body. Ends with a nice level of bitterness from both the roasted malts and hops. Not as much coffee as I would expect, as some standard Porters and Stouts can attain this much coffee flavor without additions. Still, pretty well executed.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium body with a dry finish. Just a trifle thin.
Overall: A pretty good Porter. I have some minor concerns about the quality and/or quantity of coffee used, but it all came out alright.

A dark brown pour with a tan head. There is toast and light coffee in the aroma. The light body has a somewhat thin texture with average carbonation. The taste is slightly roasted with a coffee flavor that is not too overpowering and smooth finish.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Dated 05/11/11. Pours a dark brown/black with a small amount of dark tan head that dissipates quickly. But leaves good lacing. Nose is intensely sweet chocolate with a small amount of bitter coffee. Taste is medium bitter and lightly sour. Has a very strong coffee aftertaste with no chocolate taste whatsoever. Light bodied with a thin texture, fizzy carbonation and a long coffee flavored finish. I gave one extra point to palate just because I’m sure it was better when it was fresh. Overall, its not a bad beer. I gave it two extra points here again because of the freshness. I love the fact that it smells so sweet and tastes bitter. Definitely one to try!
