2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DYCSoccer17 (2788) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 19, 2012
12 ounce bottle purchased at Nugget in Davis (Pole Line). Initially metallic hints are present, before there are lots of weird fruity esters present. Light peatiness. Quite sweet in the aroma. Transparent garnet-amber body with a medium, creamy, somewhat rocky off-yellow head present. Starts with some sweet, chewy, peaty malt character. Becomes a little metallic in the middle, before this finishes with some roastiness and a light burnt character. A bit thin-bodied, and rather pedestrian. Meh.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bnoel09 (271) - Elk Grove, California, USA - MAY 13, 2012
Poured into my Big Sky shaker. Color is ruby brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is caramel malt with dark fruit. Flavor is nutty with dark fruit and some earthiness. Medium bodied and smooth. This wasn’t bad, but I like my Scotch ales to be a little more over the top and include some smokiness from the peat.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of caramel, cola, chocolate and light floral hops. Deep ruby brown hue with an average off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Flavor is medium/heavy sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is full bodied and watery average. Overall a decent and satisfying brew.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice caramel-sugar with some earthy malts. Flavor is big caramel malts with a lingering hop and a creamy almost nouget. No real peatyness but this is still a solid and flavorful drinker.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 DuffMan (4422) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 4, 2012
Bottle. deep red-copper colour with a thick tan head. Aroma is heavy on bready, crusty malts, some burnt sugar, some chocolate, with hints of prunes or some kind of sweet dark fruit. Flavours are nicely malty too, with lots of breadcrusts, dark caramel, hints of tobacco, cocoa, and black cherries. Finish is dry and slightly tangy, not quite metallic. Maybe it was my mood (chillin’out, watching MI4 with my dad who I only get to see twice a year), but this beer really satisfied.
