2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Beautiful dark ruby with a thick creamy light tan head. Little sharp carbonic nose, also creamy caramel, rose petals and brown sugar. Coppery metallic up front, little floral, but sharp. Cannot finish, too metallic.

Gorgeous mahogany-scotch color with caramelized head. Easy nutty malt nose. Malty, nutty, bready body with some banana notes inexplicably present, but it mostly works. Solid.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz bottle into Sam Adams all-purpose glass (sorry, don’t have a thistle!). Bought at Super 1 in Rathdrum, Idaho. Is it just my area, or has Big Sky not come out with a new beer in a 12 oz bottle in years? It’s nice to see a new one on the shelves. Pours a beautiful bright ruby red hue with a huge head that dissipates in a few minutes, leaving a blanket of foam and nice decorative lacework. Aroma seems muted right now; hopefully it will open up as it warms. At the moment I do smell some citrus powder drink and some hints of banana nut bread and caramel. Taste is sweet at first and leaves a nice sour then bitter finish. Somewhat smoky. Carbonation is pretty high, body is medium to high. Every time I have a quality scotch ale, I seem to like the style just a little bit more. I used to avoid this style, so that’s a good thing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Filtered looking, translucent burgundy-brown. Malty and sweet, lofs of caramel flavor. Fruity ale yeast. Quite fresh and pleasantly medium to full-bodied. Sweet, lots of brown sugar character. Hops are way in the background, but do give it some mild orange, soapy balance. Pretty good.

Nice to see a new brew from Big Sky. Mild nose with sweet malt and minor hop. Slightly bready, mild booze, and touches of peat malt. Decently hoppy. Enjoyable.

On tap at Stone 9/12/10. DArk orange-brown. Raisin sweet nose. Taste sharp bitter with a hint of sweet to burnt malt. One dimensional bitter, but sweetens a bit as it warms. Just OK.

On draft at the Big Sky Brewing taproom on 1/23/10. Pours a reddish gold, with a nice head. Good sturdy Scotch ale taste. Bread aromas, sweet malt .... superb. A slight sweetness, with hints of caramel and nuts. Very good. Thumbs up on this one.
