3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle pours ruby red amber supporting up a tan head of foam. The aroma is big and sweet and fruity with rip cherries, blue berries and sticky prunes as well as brown sugar and molasses. I prefer a bit of musty earthiness for this style too. The taste has the same sense of notes noted in the nose like prunes, cherries and dark berries amid some malty to molasses like sweetness. Into the finish it gets lightly peppery to. Decent enough for the style.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ruby to purple in color with a diminishing light tan head and decent lace. Sweet malt and grainy scents with a molasses backdrop. Flavors are sweet and quite simple. Grains dominate, with some toast and dark fruit jam. Hints of smoke and roasted malt in the finish. Some metal and earth in the linger. 7/10

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Lite ruby /cola color. Short lived head. Aroma is light of smoke ,malt and some nuttiness. Flavor is also light as well as the body. ABV well hidden. This is just too light and thin to be a good representative of the style.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dinner beer -- Was surprised this was sub-7% abv. Solid beer, but with this style I prefer a heavier brew. Overall very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Better flavor than expected. Perfect amount of smoke in this one. Nose is nice too. Smoke, malt, toffee, fruit and nut. Body being thin is the only thing holding this back.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
355ml bottle. HAzed dark amber/brown pour. Creamy milky white head. The aroma is suprememly malty with a dose of fruitiness and slight herbs. Flavor is sweet with some spices, very savory yeast, some bitternsweetness in the finish, bit of balsamic, but not in a sour way. Decent brew that has very little sweetness and loads of malt presence.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle, poured into a shaker pint at ~40 degrees F.
Appearance: Pours a clear, if dark, garnet-ruby brown, where the shadows of one’s fingers are visible with no blurring on the other side of the glass. Forms a rather short-lived finger of beige head, which dies to a ring swiftly.
Smell: Toffee-sprinkled dark bread, being eaten near a patch of damp clay that lends just a hint to the aroma. There are also faint suggestions of some old fig and black cherry.
Taste: The flavors open with a mixture of an ashy-clay bitterness, sweet toffee, and dark bread, with the ashes and clay forming a sort of bedrock which underlays the remainder of the palate. Notes of tanned leather and fig waft through the sweetness, along with some hints of old, soft, damp wood. The finish leaves a lingering aftertaste of bitter clay, sweet toffee, and aged black cherry.
Mouthfeel: Light and thin, this is a chuggable beer, not a sticky or creamy one.
Overall: I’m not displeased with having picked up a sixer of this beer, but I don’t know that it’s a repeater for me. Between the thin mouthfeel and the, to me, somewhat heavy-handed approach to the earthy hops, I’ve had much better scotch ales.
