COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Sky Brewing’s Ivan the Terrible Imperial Stout is brewed according to the traditional style using English hops and the finest American malt. Its aroma and flavor balances well between esters of dried fruit and roasted cocoa with a slight bourbon presence. Ivan was aged for a minimum of three months in American oak Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels.

2013, 13.8%. Dark brown, near black pour with thin to no head. Big bourbony aroma with chocolate. Taste is a smooth blend of bourbon, chocolate malt, oak, caramel. Somewhat thin on the body. Very good, definitely a sipper.

The mighty IVAN! Woo! Pours dark with brown head. Bourbon, malts, chocolate, really awesome. A great beer, not much coffee but the bourbon is subtle and well-done. Glad I have two bottles. Very good.

Couldn't detect much on the nose (it was a cold pour) but all in all a fantastic beer. Can't believe I've gone this far without having it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A FINE example of a BA Stout. Received from Jason in a trade! Shared with friends. Small snifters. We let it warm before pouring. Solid very dark, opaque pour with a mocha thin head. Aroma was powerful roasted malts, oak barrel, vanilla, spices and slight booze. The taste was amazing with balanced roasted malts, oak barrel, alcohol, vanilla, and slight peat. Thick mouth with a full body. Finish is a little dark chocolate, oak and booze (but not overly boozy.) Need to get another one and soon!

True to form barrel aged stout. Dark color and heady aroma without an overpowering of bourbon. Taste is smooth and easy from start to finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 bottle pours black, small soapy khaki head. Big chocolate, cocoa notes. Bourbon stays the course from start to finish. Bold body.

Corked bottle from Sendiks in Brookfield, cellar aged 18 months; shared with ck1 and my other brother. Pours black and chunky. Aroma has chocolate, molasses and oatmeal, with whiskey and light soy. Taste is of bittersweet chocolate, espresso/roast, soy and some molasses. A bit rough. Some alcohol. Full bodied. Finishes bittersweet and strong. I liked this one!
