4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at Slows Bar BQ. Pours pitch black with a small head that fades quickly and collects at the edges. Good lacing too. Aroma is a fairly unique for this style. Lots of cocoa and fruity esters, hints of bourbon and roasted malt. Very sweet on the first sip but it doesn’t bother me here. Dark dried fruit mixed with sweet cocoa gives a surprisingly nice balance. The bourbon is there but very subtle. Finish is lingering cocoa and light bourbon. Medium body and pretty oily. This is really good stuff worth trying if you can. A unique take on the style here.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: MAR 10, 2013 Draft. Overwhelming prune and bourbon notes. Devoid of coffee or chocolate notes. Miles behind Old Rasputin. It’s not "terrible", but it might be my least favorite imp. stout.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Hot, raisin, chocolate, nail polish, prune, vanilla, bourbon. I am glad I got to try this, not as good as I had hoped for.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
750mL bottle split 2 ways. 2010 vintage.
A: Rambunctious head, a full inch of fluffy cappuccino foam, after a glugging pour. Nice legs. Absence worthy black.
N: Bourbon, oak, prunes, chocolate. Slight roast and moderate licorice. Some soy sauce. Caramel and fudge - more of the wood and bourbon.
T: Oak, prune, raisin, fudge. Honey and low levels of roastiness. Espresso sweetened with two lumps of sugar in the grind. Very sweet, but it’s not cloying as some of its competitors are wont to be. Hints of soy sauce. Hops are here with some earthy bite, but they mostly add balance.
M: Creamy mouthfeel which is on the lighter side of the spectrum. Lots of booze still.
O: A really well balanced and fairly delicate beer. Very enjoyable, and worth recommending.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap, pours black with almost no head or lace. More malty than one might expect. Good mouthfeel. Hints of bourbon but if you bought it expecting big bourbon taste you will be disappointed.
