Black pour with small tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, bourbon notes, vanilla and oak. Taste of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, slightly fruity, faint oak and faint bourbon, smoothing this out perfectly. Full bodied, creamy smooth mouthfeel, excellent beer!

On tap at the Rackhouse. Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head an great lacing. Sweet cocoa, coffee, vanilla, raisins, figs, earthy hops, bourbon, coconut, brown sugar, and caramel in the aroma. Taste is bread, toasted bread, dark chocolate, vanilla, earthy hops, plums, sweet brown sugar, graham cracker and light coconut with a lingering roasted coffee finish. Slick/syrupy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Easy drinking russian imperial and not overly dominated by the barrel.

A- pours a dark opaque brown with very thin cola brown edges. Minimal tan head and very faint lacing.
S- pungent caramel, grains and dog food. Vanilla, molasses, wood, processed milk chocolate are all prominent. Alcohol, cola, rhubarb, licorice fall behind but are there.
M- relatively light and water body for a stout of this kind. Palate is medium while still being somewhat watery and faintly tart and sweet.
T- very weak chocolate, caramel, malts and some two day old coffee grounds are up front. Zinc, graham crackers, odd hoppy citrus and some grass in the middle. Coffee, cola, mincemeat, molasses, rooty vegetables and an earthiness in the quick end.
Smell promises so much and the taste delivers so little.

750 bottle (2013) in Seattle. A great christmas present, very glad I got to finally try this. Black brown body with brown head. Leathery caramel, great rich molasses and soy. Coffee depth. Good medium weight. Alc has a nice bite this fresh. A bit of cola, herbs. Alc at end is a touch medicinal. Very happy with this. Will have squirrel away a few bottles, I bet this gets even better with a little patience.

Bottle sent to me by Prufrockstar - thanks Chris! Pour is dark black with zero head. Really nice bourbon nose. No lacing. Slight carbonation, but really fantastic taste. Big bourbon taste, thick mouthfeel - more of a liquor than a beer. Chocolate, tobacco and roasted malt. Sweet finish that gradually goes into a nice bourbon finish. This was really nice despite being almost totally flat.

A: pours a dark maduro brown. Nice, two finger latte head loosely disspates and leaves a thick sheet of the same. Beer has excellent clarity around edges, otherwise SRM’s prevent this. minimal lacing.
S: The bourbon is both the hilight and beautifully subdued. Never experienced appropriately blended BBA like this. Malty, anise, bourbon, sweetness, molasses. Very nice. Very pleasing.
T: This beer is fantastic fresh - I’ve had many BBA’s that need aging, and then peak out. I’m not so sure this beer should be aged. It’s great now, and struggle to see the Bourbon getting better. I think I prefer this to The Abyss.
M: Velvet, with moderate carbonation. I do, however, tend to stir my glass so frequently, that the carbonation dies out quite a bit. Leaves the the mouth slick and appreciating the bourbon barrels even longer.
D: This beer is outstanding. I can’t see the beer having better presence beyond being fresh. I have about a case sitting around the house - I’ve already traded too much of it away. This beer is outstanding.

On tap at Barrels & Bottles. Black appearance with a brown head. Aroma and flavor of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruits, vanilla and a touch of bourbon. Complex and sweet with light bitterness. Full body with a smooth, creamy feel and a tangy finish.

2013 bottle, 1506/3000. Smells like bourbon, with some espresso and chocolate in there. Deep and rich, pretty boozy, there’s definitely a burn. So good, but probably even better in a year or so.

Deep black core, light brown edges. Burnt malt nose, some coffee, trace of oak. Ashy, burnt malts, smooth though. Bourbon not very present, except perhaps a bit thin.
