A good beer, a bit to much hop aroma/flavor and not quite enough bitterness to balance.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Typical nearly opaque brown appearance with no head. Unsubstantial aroma consisting of malt, roast and caramel. Very boring brown. Extremely thin and watery. The flavours are adequately described by the aroma. Simple and feeble. Don’t quite understand the praise for this one.

"pretty smooth beer, even better if you can find it in the metal bottles. dark roasted malt and coffee on the nose and tongue. A cut above average. Recomended. 3.4 bottle, 3.6+ tap, 3.6+ aluminum

Good! Nutty and roasty and not too sweet. A great specimen for a Brown ale.

Good sessionable beer. Pours a rich brown with small tan head. Picking up spicy aromas and a peppery edge. Cherry and toffee flavours ensue. Surprisingly good.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a medium to dark brown color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a very light level of retention, fading to leave a tiny level of fizzy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is a blend of sweet, roast and a very light nutty and grassy. The strongest of the smells is that of a caramel and light molasses aroma with the next strongest being that of a light roasted malt smell. A little bit of chocolate, nut and grass are there as well producing a light but moderately nice smelling brew.
Taste – The taste begins with a very light roasted flavor mixed with a more brown sugar and caramel sweetness. The sweetness grows stronger and stronger as the flavor advances with the brown sugar losing strength but being replaced and even augmented by lots of caramel and an almost cola like taste. While the roast is light in intensity upfront it actually dwindles even more toward the end of the taste, leaving it overall rather thin in roast. Some light coffee flavors do come to the tongue at the end however making up for some of the loss of the roasted flavors. A nut and a hint of and herbal and grassy hop join at the very end, leaving a rather thin dark and medium sweet flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thin and watery for a brown with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. Not really great for the style on either front with none of the roast supported and the sweeter flavors highlighted too much in light of the roast.
Overall – Not the greatest brown out there. Just OK.

Can. Brown with an off-white head. Toffee aroma with some spices, hints of nuts. Fairly sweet with toasty and toffee malty notes. Dies out a little with some spices. Lowish bitterness. Plain but solid.

I definitely enjoyed this beer, but brown ales are generally not my style.

Sample flight at Painted Horse in Bartlesville, OK. Ruby-brown color with off-white head. Aroma of heavy malt roastiness, grainy, caramel, light chocolate and fruity. Taste adds notes of bread, toffee, dark fruit and earthy hop bitterness. Medium body, moderate-low carbonation, creamy with clean light roast finish. Pretty good brown,

Cool and into a tulip. Now there’s one hell of a sexy beer. Lofty, off-white foam atop a shimmeriing, deepest ruby body with fine, intermittent carbonation. Dusty, topsoil nose; quite earthy and musty with hints of cocoa powder, wood, toffee brittle, carob and kelp. Heavily malted flavour profile. Sticky, sweet toasted and toffeeish front with licks of cola and roasted peanuts mid-palate before a biscuity, woody, chocolate malt and dusty hop finish. This is amazingly good, I guess from what I had anticipated. Body is medium-light with good length of malt in the creamy finish and soft, spritzy effervescence up front. Woody notes are quite pronounced late into drinking and it steers clear of becoming sweet which impressed. A nice, balanced and sessionable Brown ale.
