3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Big Sky Powder Hound Winter Ale - Appearance is somewhere in between orange and copper. Head is quite small; lacing is somewhat more impressive. Aroma - heavy caramel malts and sugar; becomes merely bready once the tiny head dies down. Flavor - the caramel malts certainly come through, but there’s also a nice nutty and hoppy ending. Smoother than I was anticipating, but not thin-bodied or watery at all, which is good since this is an English Strong. Not much lingers, unfortunately, and this isn’t anywhere near the level of Deschutes’ Jubelale, but it fits the style and is drinkable enough.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours bright copper with thin off-white head. Aroma is dark caramel malts and faint hop notes. Taste is malt forward, lightly roasted, sweet, and substantial. Tastes more wintery than it looks. Finishes with mild hoppy bitterness. Not a standout, and quite lighter bodied than most other winter beers, but pleasantly drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
An average winter ale. If you’re looking for spices, find something more potent than this. Rather than oranges, there is a more tropical fruit flavor. Mild in aroma with some caramelly sweetness.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle at 7.2% ABV, pours a clear dark amber/brown with a huge head, I took my time to pour this and it was still four fingers worth of head, aroma has a good amount of hops to it with some caramel sweetness as well, the flavor has a sweet front end with malt and caramel and a slight bitter finish, actually pretty surprised with this one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Aroma has notes of caramel malts, floral and citrus aromas and dried fruits. Medium orange amber hue with a small off-white head that left little lace. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Overall a very nice brew. Nice barely wine malts and aged hops. Loved it.
