COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Paxton's ESB is a traditional British style bitter with Fuggle Hops, one of the noble British varities. The hops are added to the boil three different times to impart bitterness, flavor and aroma. We also used 1.5 pounds of dark brown sugar in keeping with the British tradition of adding fermentable sugar to their "Extra Special Bitter". OG Plato 1.056 4.25 by Wt.

Very well carbonated. Dark amber pour with a thin white head. Smells a bit citrusy. Taste is surprisingly mellow, was expecting more of a bite, but it’s a lot like drinking an amber. Very smooth. Decent brew, but there are usually better options.

Draft at btbc. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a loose white head. Light drippy lace. Toasty brown bread nose. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Toasty malty mid palate with a mild bready finish. Appealing and inoffensive.

Not the best aroma. This is pretty decent at first, some malts, but the remainder of the body is very very thin.

Light caramel and toffee notes in the aroma followed by some earthy hops. A touch fruity too. POurs dark amber with really awesome lace and a great head. Nice amber colors - guess I was the only one to find this visually appealing. Flavors of light caramel malts, toffee, burnt toast, and a soft earthy bitterness. Smooth medium bodied ale with a nice balance.

Cask pour@ Big Time. Clear copper with a viscous tan head. Nice floral hop caramel sweet aroma. Medium body. Smooth chewy mouthfeel. Toasted caramel sweetness up front, with a nicely bitter hop twang to finish. Hard to beat the cask version of any brew.

Draught. Low and quickly disappearing off-white head. Hazy muddy yellow body. Mild malty aroma. Bitter malty and salty flavor with low carbonation and a long aftertaste.

Draught @ WABF 2008. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with an off-white head. Sweet malty caramel aroma with some weak hints of hops. Sweetish malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a slightly sweetish malty caramel finish with a citrus hoppy aftertaste.

On tap at WABL Brew Fest 2008. Pours clear copper with a lacy white head. Medium-light body & light carbonation. Definitely in the ESB area code, but there is an estery quality that doesn’t quite fit.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2006 On tap at the brewery.

Pous a hazy gold without much head. Seriously fugglesy aroma, somewhat swampy, mavellous hop blast on the flavor at nearly IPA strength. plenty carmal-malted compared to the British renditions (and also a bit more citrus hops).

This is a curious beer, but it is actually a pretty darn drinkable one. Nice!
