3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FlacoAlto (3450) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 2, 2007
Sampled @ Big Time, April 2007
My nose is greeted by a fruity hop driven note made up of apricot and lychee. The beer is a hazy blond-copper color and is topped by a wispy, light tan colored head. The flavor has a mellow hop bite to it with sharp, herbal pine flavors coupled with a fruity citrus character that is not quite as pungent as the nose might have suggested.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 WISEGUY572 (1373) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 14, 2006
Hazy amber. Like most of Big Time’s beers this is cloudier than I would have expected, and like most leaves great lacing. Creamy mouth feel. Mallts and hops in balance, more grapefruity than orange and pine tar. Not my favorite of their IPAs, but a good beer.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 OldMrCrow (1518) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 9, 2006
Dry hopped version. Tap at Brouwer’s Hopfest ’06.
This dry-hopped version, brewed just for the occasion, was the standout of my second evening at hopfest. It pours a hazy hamber with a white head and a powerful herbal dry-hopped aroma, mint and bit of flowers. The flavor melds a lovely herbal hoppiness with hints or orange and lemon, some caramel in the malt. The beer is lightly sweet but not sticky and always easy-drinking while bringing forward a big hop goodness. This is a huge winner.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 28, 2006
Dry hopped. Cloudy gold wit no head and light lacing. Nose of citrus and floral hops. Grapefruity and a little bitter. The flavors are a touch melon with more of that grapefruit. Warm and toasty malts. Lots of citrus. Smooth and silky palate finishes with a load of citrus grapefruit.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DYCSoccer17 (3012) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 15, 2006
4 ounce sample on tap at the brewery. Grainy, piney/grapefruity PNW hop aroma with some citrus notes present as well. Smells good. Mildly hazy golden/copperish color with a frothy white head and nice lacing present. Hash, hempy bitter hoppiness with lots of hempy flavors and a bit of sweet maltiness present in the middle. More bittering hops to finish. This is a huge hop monster, that is unfrotunately poorly balanced. Needs some more malts.
