On tap at the Big Time Brewery
Pours dark with a limited head but a rich aroma of spice, toasty malt, and citrus hops. The flavor is robust and, with a rich toasty malt that approaches what one might expect from a porter and a lovely full blast of hops as from an IPA. The combination, while perhaps not made in heaven, is certainly enjoyable on the palate.
While I prefer their better IPAs, this is quite a fine seasonal.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JoeMcPhee (6964) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 4, 2005
On tap at the brewery. 2005 version. Dark brown beer, hazy with orange highlights. Thin amber head. Nice fresh Cascadey aroma, sweet malts and other spicy hop varieties. A bit toasty. Flavour is well-balanced, citrusy flavour with some mango/peachiness behind the Cascades. Finishes with a shot of earthy/spicy hops behind all the toasted malts. The maltiness comes forward even more as it warms. Can’t find anything wrong with this tasty beer.

Had a peaty nose with just a hint of smoke. The hoppy mouth was overlaid with malty pumpkin seeds and a rounded malty finish.

Strong dark brown ale. Treacly, slightly sticky. Then it gets molasses, pine and earth notes.
