COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1823, nineteen year old Archibald Bell was the first explorer to cross the Blue Mountains through the area now known as Bilpin. The region’s fertile soil, mountain elevation and agreeable climate combine to make it ideal for growing fruit. Bilpin soon developed into one of Australia’s premium apple orchards. It may have taken over 100 years to establish Bilpin Cider Co., but we are certain the wait has been worth it. Bilpin Original is pure, fresh apple cider delivering a perfectly balanced taste with a crisp apple aroma. Contains no artificial flavours or concentrates.

330mL bottle Probably should mention the memories of driving through Bilpin as a child, and buying fresh cloudy apple juice direct from the orchards on the way back from the Blue Mountains...First whiff of this reminds me of that very juice - freshly pressed apples, pulpy, almost creamy - maybe not as intense, but certainly there. Very pale, almost verging on water white with a tinge of green. Brilliant clarity, somewhat coarse bead. Light on the body, quite delicate, lively carbonation, length carries on for a good bit with excellent balance. More of that fresh apple character on the body. Granny Smith flesh and skin, acid is cuts through well without being overt or sour/tart. Get some nice subtle floral notes and citrus. Clean finish, no real yeast character apparent. Really liked this cider! Not overly complex but it has proper fresh apple juice flavour to it, where so many other ciders totally fail in that department; a welcome suprise, highly drinkable!

330ml bottle. Pours a pale shade of yellow, looking like slightly green-tinged champagne - it looks quite a lot like most other commercial ciders. The aroma is mainly fairly simplistic apple, with a touch of musk and a certain sweetly boozy smell. It is quite tart, almost sour, to start, moving into a much sweeter, fruity body, with a touch of cane sugar. The finish has some vaguely artificial lemon notes. Make no mistake, unlike the other main recent Australian cider release, Matilda Bay’s Dirty Granny, this is not aimed at the serious cider drinker, but at the Strongbow drinker. It is very much a fruity, commercial cider. Nevertheless, it does sit at the top end of this market, and is very drinkable, if a touch simple.
