Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
A malty 4.2% ABV bitter which is chestnut in colour with a slightly nutty hint. Hops balance the maltiness to provide a well rounded best bitter. Tavistock Estate is built on the site of the Cotterell Brickworks. Looking at Old Maps shows the brickworks were built some time between 1882 and 1899. The clay soil was ideal for making bricks and the pond that sits on the corner of Stanlake Lane and Ruscombe Lane was probably created when clay was extracted. During the Second World War, brickmaking was not a priority so the brickworks closed in 1939 and never reopened.

Cask @ CPK. Cheers to Leighton (I think!) for the generous pour. The appearance is medium amber with a fine white head. The aroma’s some toast, sweet caramel and brown sugar, notes of dates and nut bar. The taste is caramel and nuts, light toasted brown bread. This supports some delicate burned grass and earthy hoppiness. Light tobacco. Smooth, supple body. Overall, a pretty flavorful bitter.

Cask conditioned at Thyme at the Tavern, Chertsey, Surrey. Amber with white head. Quite a malty, nutty bitter a hint of tin, metalic, but reasonable enough. A twiggy hop note to finish. Ok.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2014 Cask at the Magpie, deep amber with not much head, malt and hints of smoke and nail polish on the nose. Wood, hops and a touch of red fruit in the body. Re-rate sample from the brewery, more green apples and pear drops improve the nose and overall.
