COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.
First developed for Bonfire Night 2011, this stout has a warming chilli afterglow. It aims to have just enough chilli to produce a pleasant aftertaste, without having so much that it will have you dashing for some water to put the fire out on your tongue!

Aroma: roasted malts. Appearance: clear dark brown/black, no head. Taste: medium sweet and bitter. Palate: chocolate, roasted flavours, long finish, bitter towards the end. Overall: decent Stout. Pint at the GBBF13, London.

Cask @ GBBF 2013. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and chili flavor. Has a roasted malty chili chocolate finish.

Cask at GBBF ’13, 13/08/13, clawback rate ! Light black with a thin tan head that clears edgeward. Nose is roast malt, light spice, chocolate, dark toffee notes, hint of burnt rubber. Taste comprises light chilli kick, dark chocolate, light roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry roast in the finale. Decent stout.

GBBF Day 1. Clear dark brown beer. Little pale tan head. Smooth palate, low carbonation. Smooth dark malt with a touch of dark toffee and earthy coffee. Light chilli heat. Smooth finish. All right.

Cask at dark brown with a tiny white head. The nose is earthy, cheap hotdog, smoky, bbq sauce, spicy and some sweetness. The taste is mellow roast, earth, light spice, treacle, meat, light bitterness with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Not as bad as you might think. Fine.

If Short’s were to get into the English cask ale business this is the sort of thing I imagine they would put out there. Smelling and tasting exactly like a pot of chilli with Oscar Meyer hot dogs thrown in this more of an experiment than a proper beer.

Aroma / Appearance - The fluid black base is safe to look at but the strangeness begins with the aroma. Hot dogs cooking in a crock pot mix with coffee and molasses in a combination that is hard to describe without experiencing.

Flavor / Palate - Spicy hot dogs with a generous spread of mustard aggressively hit the palate mere seconds after the first sip. The oddness does not change over time - this has no depth beyond being a basic novelty. On the plus side I did at least get a new county tick out of the deal.

Cask at Ealing beer festival 2013, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, chocolate, definite chilli. Interesting stout but one would be enough.
