Cask at Craft Pub and Kitchen Glowing pitch black with lace. Aroma of ginger, chocolate, coffee. Interesting, with lots of ginger. Roasty flavor of coffee, café au lait, ginger. Sweet, with honey and some lemon. Crisp too, and the ginger works nicely, giving a prickly, burning finish.

cask at reading ... deep brown black ... thin bubbly tan lacing ...soft ginger roast malt nose ... deep roast ... solid malts ... deep roast .... big ginger ... very nice

Bottled. A black beer with an off-white to tan coloured head. Definite ginger in the nose together with light roasted malts. The malts are more dominant than the ginger in the mouth. Tasty and warming and not over gingered, but this doesn;t work as well as the vanilla.

Cask (Cask P&K, RBESG Sunday)
Nice ginger aroma, but not aggressive. Guaranteed to press my buttons. Super mooth roasty palate. Sweet malty roast, a touch of coffee accompanies the warming ginger in the finish. Good one, but failed to knock me over, there was something not quite wow about it.

Clear dark black brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, ginger. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, ginger spicy, good balance of roasted and ginger, soapy notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Cask at Cask, Pub & Kitchen, London. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of ginger and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of ginger and roasted malt, leading to a dry gingery finish.

Cask - at Cask Pub & Kitchen - August 7, 2011. Very black, almost totally opaque held up to a bright light - with a decent small creamy light brown head. Nice! - aroma has some coffee bean, some dark chocolate, to me mostly just a lush nutty medium roast maltiness with a very subtle overlay of ginger sharpness - mostly just a not-too-bitter stout - not sweet or syrupy at all. Taste - follows - very good - add some licorice, hardly any alcohol presence, solid roast medley (nutmeat, coffee, a bit of chocolate) - not bitter or sweet, and just enough gingery spice to remind you it’s there - restrained, but you can’t ignore the ginger. Light and airy body, classic cask mild carbonation, starts malty and finishes a bit burnt and somewhat herbal in the finish - a sticky residue on the lips, too. Very solid stuff.
