3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jerohen (1793) - Bussum, - SEP 17, 2011
Bottled, blind tasting at home. Brown colored, small brown head. Sweet caramel malty nose, some raisins. Caramel malty flavor, very sweet, a classic Dubbel. Somewhat bitter finish. The bittersweet finish makes it stand out from other Dubbels, nice. Thanks Vanya and Martijn for this gift.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mnoud (91) - Martinsburg, West Virginia, USA - MAY 13, 2012
2012.05.13 - 11.2oz bottle in tulip glass. Pours medium dark brown, modest foamy white head basically recedes to a ring. Aroma a bit bread and a bit caramel sweetness. Taste is kind if down the middle with a bit of a toffee sweetness balanced with a bitter and roasty side. Mild carbonation. Not bad, about what I expected.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 stobbe74 (3163) - DENMARK - MAY 9, 2012
Draft at Akkurat. Pours a clear and brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, caramel, some bread and some fruit. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness. Overall a good beer.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Brown 33ml bottle, best before 02/2006? Drank 03/2007.
Poured into a Straffe Hendrik bowl glass. It looked wonderful for about 20 seconds, sadly the full beige foaming head which appeared on pouring, just legged it to a wispy, half covering of the very dark hamogany red/black body.
No big aroma from my bottle, burnt malts and sweet caramel, but nothing very strong.
Sweet, burnt malts and caramel follow on into the taste from the aroma, the taste is not over sweet, but it is not a bitter, sour brown flavour.
Not the strongest, most flavoursome or thickest brown around, in fact it is almost watery, but that would be unfair, it is average for it’s style.
Would I have another if I come across it somewhere? Yes, but I won’t pay for it.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (166) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 3, 2012
Draft at Monks. Very dark brown with a slightly foamy tan head. Crisp funky chocolate caramel. Fizzy on the tongue. Warms to some darker fruit. Well blended flavors but only reaches medium depth. Reads like a thinner version of what could be a tremendous beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 yngwie (9177) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - APR 9, 2012
Bottle. A clear one, brown in color and topped by a small, beige head. The aroma is quite typical Belgian, fruity, sugary and with dried fruits. Dried fruits, cellar, a touch of oxidation and some hints of chocolate in the flavor. Bitterness too, both initially and in the end. Full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Perhaps a bit too straight forward this one, but it’s certainly a nice beer. 110916
