Bottled. Yellow/golden colour, small white head. Weak skunked hops in aroma. Watery and a bit hoppy. Bitter aftertaste. Quite unplesant.

Pale yellow, not much head. Light grassy, a bit skunked hoppy nose. Very watered. A bit sweet malty. Not big failures but totally uninteresting lager, maybe ice cold in real hot weather this goes well.

johndoughty (3875) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 18, 2005
Quite pleasant aroma upon opening but this was slightly misleading. It turned out to be a fairly run of the mill lager. Then I found out that the brewey is owned by Heineken so it all fell into place.

Bottle. Pale gold with a slim white head. Sweetish, malty, lightly hoppy aroma. Light bodied, moderatley carbonated. Not much taste, but there is a little bit, sweetish, dryish. There are worse.

I waited many years to try a Bintang, vowing to do it right by trying this in it’s own climate, on it’s own soil. BALI, yes, honeymoon with my lovely wife, even better. Arrived at hotel and sampled my first. God it was hot, the beer barely managed to stay cold under the conditions. Needed. Over the next fortnight I can’t guess as to how many ’Bintang’ I managed to down, seemed the Balinese drove you to drink it, offering this over the Indonesian brews like Anker or Blah ’Indo-Carlsberg’. Worked well, love the people, and this became a basic necessity to survival as the water in Bali is undrinkable. Poured on many occasions without a head and on the odd one with a decent fluffy patch and even a little lace. Aroma was quite honey sweet with a little grassyness coming through, again differing with location. Taste was heaven, as before mentioned, it was hot and all the walking has made me thirsty. Honey malt, quite sweet, light bodied, crisp and reasonably clean. Had varying carbonation depending on where I bought it on the island. Well known to the frequent visitors as ’Bali water’ or ’Big Bintang’ and believe me I tasted it in Australia and it tasted like a skunky pale lager, tasted in Bali it was a needs for survival, revitalising what the humidity took out of me. The only beer I have tasted that genuinely suits its own climate. Look forward to my next ’Bali water’.

DuffMan (6531) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 20, 2005
Pale straw yellow with moderate head, malty nose. Refreshing and enjoyable, on par with most mass-marketed North American lagers. No outstanding features.

Pale gold...nice colour, head is thin but lasts ok! Light on the nose, fresh and lightly hoppy..grassy almost! Lightish in body and also in flavour, slightly malty & quite smooth. A good clean refreshing lager, all we need now is a scorching hot summers day. An interesting find at Victoria Wine in Kelso...not cheap tho @ 1.79 for a 330ml bottle.
