12oz bottle from Liquor Loft listed as Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Red. Ruby red - brown pour with thin tan head and good retention. Light cherry tart nose. Tastes are sour fruit and sweet vinegar. Overall not so sour - but tasty enough.

My first sour beer. Bottle labeled Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Nicely sour, while still being approachable. Finishes sweetish.

Moderately candied, cereal and dark syrup aroma. Dark brown, big tan head, good bottle, OK label. Sour, obviously, which dominates the flavor profile. Only slightly sweet, lots of barely-ripe plum flavors, lightly astringent. Effervescent mouthfeel, medium-light body, finishes out precipitously and then lingers around for a bit -- aftertaste is slightly herbal and tannic. This was just OK - it taunted me, but didn’t really deliver.

On tap at Monk’s. Clear reddish brown pour with a small white head. Vinegar and sour cherry nose. Medium body, medium acidity. Sour cherry and mild vinegar notes held in check by sturdy caramel malt undertones. A real nice house beer...

Tap @ FG w Erica. Deep ruby pour into tulip, big off-white head. Smells of tart red fruit and faint vinegar. Palate is huge strawberry and some cherry. Very tart, a bit sour, not acidic or astringent at all. Light- to medium-bodied and extremely refreshing served cold, which I think is cool/unique for a sour or fruit beer. Maybe due to high carb. Yea, that’s it. Tastes fantastic.

Tap at the Mason, advertised under "Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour." Pours dark reddish-purple, pretty murky. Small, wispy head. Nose is savory vinegar, some sour cherry and apple. Bit of a woody note. Taste follows suit, but REALLY heavy on the vinegar. I mean really. Definitely drinkable, but it sort of numbs your tongue after a whole glass.

What an interesting beer. Pours a lively burnt red with no lasting head. Fruit in the nose (cherries?). Faint lactic smell to boot. Medium sweetness followed almost immediately by medium sourness. Medium body fluffed by a persistent carbonation. A dry sherry like finish. This is my first Flemish sour...I hope the rest are this good and full of character.

Deep red-brown with giant tan head. Aroma is like red wine vinegar and a little malty. Light-medium body, carbonation. Sweet and apple-like flavors. A little sourness but sweetness predominates. Interesting but not my favorite.
