Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Pours red, white head. Sour smell with a hint of sweetness. Very tart, with a sweetness also. Maybe a hint of lime or citrus. Not as sour as I expected. Refreshing! Very enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

11.2 oz bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have tart/sour cherry, red wine vinegar, some caramel sweetness, the nose was strong, the flavor faded somewhat toward the finish. Would make a nice intro sour.

Draft at monks cafe Philly. Deep dark red with tons of lacing. Aroma is sweet cream with a funk touch. The taste adds lactic tart notes and a slightly bitter finish, sweet candied sugar, and dark fruits as well. Very smooth but rich. Awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Half pint at PNP Charleston. Called Monks Cafe. Dark brown with small crimson highlights, and small/medium beige head. Aroma is fairly rich cherries, medium body, medium carbonation, and thin small bubble lacing. Taste is slightly tart cherry and dryer finish. Easy to drink and pretty good.

Whoa not very impressed. Tastes like half ale, half lambic with neither one of them standing out. Meh.

Bottle. Dark ruby with a big off white head. Aroma is cranberry juice, cherry and light musk. Taste adds chocolate and lactic notes and an earthy note on the finish. Soft and thin mouthfeel with little carb and relatively quick finish. Slightly odd but really enjoyable.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 The aroma is very sour and lactic with strong notes of cherry and more subtle hints of orange. The flavor is complex, at first a of bit creamy malts on the palate followed by a big tart lactic rush. Cherry features in a softer sour finish.

11.2 oz bottle. Thanks Haley! Pours a light brown in color, small head with moderate lacing. Aroma is funky yeast, sweet dark malts. Flavor is refreshing and tasty. I always prefer sour over sweet. The beer definitely has a sweet component, and finishes that way. Mouthfeel is moderately low carbonation, nice feel, sweet/sour finish (mostly sweet).
