Also called ďMonkís Cafť Flemish Sour Red AleĒ

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

I usually drink IPAs and DIPAs but asked one of the workers to suggest something new and this was it. This may be the first sour ale I have had. Labeled Monkís Cafe Flemmish Ale I poured it into a snifter and it is a dark ruby color with about a half inch of head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is interesting and I would best describe it as sour cherry with a little yeast. Taste is a tart fruitiness with a little malt. Body is light and the finish is a little dry. This beer is very easy to drink and refreshing. I am going to try more of this style in the future.

Bottle at home. Pours dark reddish brown with tan/off white head. Aroma was somewhat uninspiring. Not too much going on. Very light, subtle malt notes of bread and hay and not much else. Drinks like a standard red ale with a bit more carbonation and a slight tartness with some fruity notes showing up. Maybe a little jammy raspberry, strawberry, and possibly plums. Very, very mild. Overall itís just kind of boring although I get what theyíre trying to do. Itís a good stepping stone into the world of sours for the noobs.

By far the best sour Iíve experienced as of yet. I am trying to spread my wings and try different brews...this one was recommended. I am hoping to be a bit more tolerant of sours as the weather warms. This one is actually quite pleasant and refreshing.

Dark brown to red color, off-white head. Sweet and sour taste and aroma. Lively carbonation, thin body. Maybe closer to lambic? //bottle as Monkís Cafe Flemish Sour Ale at Svijet Piva

Pours dark brown with a red hue and a very slight off-white head. The aroma contains apple, vinegar, basement aromas and barnyard, even some cherries. It tastes medium sweet to heavy sour. The body is medium to light but the nice carbonation makes up for it. Interesting beer.

Dark Brown With Red Color, Huge Tiny Bubble Head that lasts and leaves Edges of Glass Fully Covered in Tiny Bubble Film. Lots Of Floaters. Lightly Sour Aroma. Acidic Sour with No Sign Of Sweetness. My First Sour Ale, so might Be OK for What it is Although It is Not My Style.

Type: 12-oz. draft Glass: Clear tulip glass From: Junk House in San Diego, Calif. Price: $7.00 Purchased: Jan. 8, 2016 Consumed: Jan. 8, 2016 Misc.: N/A Poured a dark reddish auburn color with 1-to-2 fingers of dark khaki-white, frothy head when I got it. Excellent, foamy layered lacing on the sides of the glass. Above average retention on the top of the glass. (Sight - 4.25) Smelled dark fruits - raspberry, red apple, strawberry and pomegranite - along with raspberry sorbet, sour lactose notes and some rosy vinegar. (Smell - 4.25) Tasted similar to the nose, getting dark boozy raspberry, raspberry sorbet, dark apple, pomegranate, light blueberry, plum, purple grapes, rosy vinegar and sour milky lactose. (Taste - 4.00) Medium body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.00) This was a very good beer. I canít believe itís taken me this long to have it. Poured a mahogany red with bits off grey lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, yeast, caramel, cherry and nut. Acidic and sour, it isnít fruity but tastes more like sour candy. Subdued. Enjoyable. Couldnít drink more than one of these.

palatable, I drank a bottle at Waldo Pizza but moved on. if it were the only sour ale on the shelf I would certainly choose it above most other styles but I really like sour ales, medium Body, and indistinct aroma. Clean palate and no lingering after taste. Appearance is fine, taste is nothing to write home about, no where near as impressive as the Trois Grande Dame.
