Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Wow, this took me buy surprise. Great flavors, but the mouthfeel was saying. Smooth with dark fruit flavors. Worth a try.

pours a deep red/orange amber with a big foamy head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is bread and tart red raspberries. Flavor is tart red raspberries and cherries. Light medium bodied with a crisp tart finish. This is really good.

(draught) clear deep ruby-brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of melted butter and hazelnuts, rather metallic and phenolic, with a touch of vinegar, some powdered sugar and acetone. flavour is mostly hazelnuts and roasted malts, with big notes of tart lemon juice, red grapes and yeast slurry. light- to medium-bodied with average carbonation.

got on a trip to Philly at THE beer store. Almost thick syrupy tasting but not really. Afterthroat is a bit syrupy, but I love the initial taste and the fuzz. Def dig it.

Pours amber red with a nice tan head. Head retention is good. Sweet sour, fruity, berry, oak , citrus and malty aroma. Flavors of sweet sour fruit, raspberries/strawberries, slight oak, plum, light pepper, malty and citrus with a nice crisp finish. Definitely a great tasting BA Ale. Looking forward to trying the rest of the Monks Cafe line up.

11.2 oz bottle labeled as Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale. Poured a slightly unfiltered reddish-brown with a foamy beige head. Sweet taste of tart cherries, sour, candy, and vinegar. Average carbonation, medium body.

Old rating...monks cafe label. Brown-red. Sweet malts, cherry, hat, vinegar. More sweet than overpowering sour. Not the best from a usually tasty style.

March madness 2015. Excellent sour ale. There is some malt and a little fruit. This is a superbly balanced beer. Such an interesting style.

March Madness 2015 - My first sour. I am pleasantly surprised. Not really what I would call a beer but it has a nice wine-line fruity flavor. Pretty tasty. Not something I would drink everyday, but very nice for a change of pace.

Pours cloudy reddish brown with a one finger tan head with decent lacing. Aroma is of sour fruits, vinegar, wet hay, cherries, and sweet malts. Taste is similar to the aroma with some winey grape notes and light nutty malts. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, sweet and sour, medium-long, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty, pretty complex sour brown.

Drank in a dimly lit bar out of a tulip so can’t see the color all that well but it’s brown and I can’t see through it at all. Smells more like a dubbel than anything, has a lot of cinnamon and candy sugar with some caramel and apples. The taste is kind much like the smell with a sour yeast characteristic added. The yeasty character and slight acidity is well balanced with the other flavors and they work in concert very well to produce a great wild ale.
