Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Aroma is light and hints of some cherry and wood and is subtle compare to other sours. Color is deep red Good solid red sour for the price. Leave your pretensions at the door.

Slight malt aroma. Reddish Amber with pillowy foam that quickly dissipates, slight lacing. Winey, slight acetic acid, soy sauce, raisins, oxidized malt, trace oak. Mild sourness, a little thin in the body.

Smells of tart apple. Pours a deep, almost black, brown. Taste is sour with a hint of sweetness followed by anunpleasantly bitter finish. In taste and aroma this ale lacks in the complexities found in other sour ales. The body is light. The carbonation is average.

Pour is mahogany in color with a small cream colored head. Aroma is malty and a little sour. A great sour that still has a nice malt base.

Bottle at home. Pours dark reddish brown with tan/off white head. Aroma was somewhat uninspiring. Not too much going on. Very light, subtle malt notes of bread and hay and not much else. Drinks like a standard red ale with a bit more carbonation and a slight tartness with some fruity notes showing up. Maybe a little jammy raspberry, strawberry, and possibly plums. Very, very mild. Overall it’s just kind of boring although I get what they’re trying to do. It’s a good stepping stone into the world of sours for the noobs.

By far the best sour I’ve experienced as of yet. I am trying to spread my wings and try different brews...this one was recommended. I am hoping to be a bit more tolerant of sours as the weather warms. This one is actually quite pleasant and refreshing.
