COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Also called “Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Red Ale”

We blend young and old beers to make this mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Appearance is deep briwn, almost black, with a creamy foam cap. Aroma is minimal, with the lactic notes showing up more than anything else. Taste starts with a sweet, slightly molasses flavor and gives way to a distinct but balanced tartness. Mouthfeel is medium with a bit of carbonation. Finish is well balanced, with a slightly lingering tartness that balances the sweetness of the malt

Bottle. Red pour with off white head. Smells of wine and slight hops. Tastes I the same. Not as sour as a lot of sour beers that I've tasted. Not bad ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Monks cafe sour red... Dark reddish in color... Aroma of sweet berries, not much tartness on the nose... Flavor is fairly sweet, lots of fruits, berries with hint of tartness... Wine, grape notes, fairly complex... Enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours almost opaque ruby into the glass, with a wonderfully retentive tan head that leaves thick lacing. The nose is of bing cherries and unripened stone fruits. Flavors of sour cherries, some funk, finishing with a curt sweet-n-sour note. Active carbonation and a medium-light body make this a great palate cleanser and quite refreshing. Nice wild sour.

Hazy reddish brown pour with small layer of offwhite head. Lactic aroma, funcy and tart smelling: port-y and sour berries. Tart taste with more creaminess and some additional funk, sour cherry and raspberries. Nice and refreshing.

11.2 oz bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have tart/sour cherry, red wine vinegar, some caramel sweetness, the nose was strong, the flavor faded somewhat toward the finish. Would make a nice intro sour.

Draft at monks cafe Philly. Deep dark red with tons of lacing. Aroma is sweet cream with a funk touch. The taste adds lactic tart notes and a slightly bitter finish, sweet candied sugar, and dark fruits as well. Very smooth but rich. Awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Half pint at PNP Charleston. Called Monks Cafe. Dark brown with small crimson highlights, and small/medium beige head. Aroma is fairly rich cherries, medium body, medium carbonation, and thin small bubble lacing. Taste is slightly tart cherry and dryer finish. Easy to drink and pretty good.
