Solid pale, but the higher abv and flavour aren't cohesive. Would have expected more. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured a clear gold with a small lingering ivory head. Aromas of bread, fruitiness and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, fruitiness and light earthiness with a smooth dry lightly bitter finish.

Bottle from Beer Cartel (Jan 2014). Clear amber/gold, minimal white head, strong grassy/grapefruit bitterness, lacking malt body, no balance, quite thin texture. Not great.

A bit of a disappointing execution of a promising idea - seems to be intended to be a crystal-malt free IPA, with heaps of bitterness and a very simple pale malt only grist. Unfortunately the fermentation has had issues and the whole thing is spoilt by smokey, insecticide off flavours and aromas. I would start looking for another contract brewery if I were Birbecks...

Very mild hop aromas. Clear golden colour with nice head. Very bitter grapefruit like flavour, no sweetness just all bitter. Med body and low carbonation ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mid golden colour, hazy but clear, no real head, light gas. Initial taste of high floral hops but too bitter for my palate. Not very pleasant IMO. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 330ml bottle 24/6/2013. Pours a clear golden with a very small head. Has a slightly odd basement aroma. The flavour kicks off with some sweet fruitiness and some grassy malt, which is quickly overtaken by an assertive bitterness, featuring some grapefruit and chemicals. The body and carbonation are medium. The blurb suggests this is intended to be and English style IPA, but I wouldn’t necessarily pick it. Certainly not boring, but it’s a little harsh and unbalanced to be really enjoyable. Not the best Birbeck’s.
