2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at VBGB in Charlotte. Looked nice, had a cool aroma of peppers and southwestern spices, but I could just not get into this one. The pepper taste was almost fake-tasting and was completely unappetizing. I couldn’t even finish it, actually - my fiancee really liked it, though, so maybe I’ll try it again sometime with a clean palate.

Can. Well you can definitely smell the jalapeños, which is a bit intimidating. But the heat isn't overwhelming. In fact, I'd like it a shade bit hotter.

16oz can from Busick. Pours a hazy orange color with a finger of foamy off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, light grapefruit, and fresh jalapeños. Taste of toasted grain, grass, light earthy hops, hints of grapefruit skins, and lots of fresh jalapeño, with no burn. This was decent, but I would have preferred some heat.

Aroma makes me smile, full of pepper. Looks a nice deep yellow with a full white head. Taste is light but full of pepper zest and spice. No burn but it feels like it could be there. Finish is a bit bitter.

One of my favorite beers of all time. This is a peppery beer done right. The aroma and taste are certainly filled with jalapeno, and if you’re like me, that’s a delicious thing indeed. However, this beer is so expertly crafted that it doesn’t feel gimmicky. For one, it’s not a hot beer. It doesn’t burn your mouth with the spiciness. Also, despite the big jalapeno flavor, it still tastes like a pale ale. You still know you’re drinking a beer, rather than something that tastes like watered down hot sauce. Although this beer is made with spicy peppers, you will not get the ring of fire shits from it. Easy in, easy out.

Sampled at the GABF 2015. I usually avoid pepper beers at festivals as they can wipe out your taste buds. It was getting to the end of the evening so I made an exception here. In the tasting glass this was a cloudy light amber. White head. Nose of caremal mats, some floral hops, and a light pepper aroma. Medium in body. Lively in mouth feel. The flavor is the malts, and the floral hops, and for sure the malts Hazy amber color; Medium body; Aroma of malt, floral hops, & light jalapeños; Flavor of the malt, citrus and floral hops, and for sure the jalapeños, though they are in the background and only add some zip and interest. Finish is spicy of course.Very nice beer and judicious use of the jalapeños. Kudos.

16 oz. pour, on tap at the Carolina Ale House in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Consumed on 9-20-15. Pours a milky, cloudy tan with a small to moderate amount of creamy, beige head. Looks good and appealing. Produces good lacing. Definite jalapeno plus light maltiness in the aroma. Floral smell has a light touch of vomit, which isn’t ideal but doesn’t ruin it. Dry, spicy taste. The jalapeno is unmistakable – yet not overwhelming – in the smell but light and subtle in the flavor, but it does provide a little something extra in the taste. The pepper works really well with the hops; quite complimentary. Light heat and dryness in the aftertaste. Light body. Lively, frothy, and fluffy in the palate. Refreshing and well made. An exceedingly likable beer. The jalapeno provides an extra kick to what otherwise would have been a forgettable, yet well made, pale ale. I am impressed. The pepper heat is just enough to slow down imbibing in a welcome way; it makes the beer ponderable. Much better beer than the ratings here suggest.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
APPEARANCE- darkish golden color, almost orange, and somewhat turbid. Not much of a head.
NOSE- slight bit of jalapeño at the first wiff. It?s a perfect scent of the pepper.
FLAVOR- also very light jalapeño flavor up front, and a touch of heat at the very end. In the middle is a smooth pale ale flavor.
NOTES- excellent version of a proper beer. I usually see stout chili pepper beers, and this has opened my eyes to the pale pepper beer.
