Like Nuffield, I also had a can of Birell brewed in Egypt under license by Al Ahram. It was fine. Sort of O’Douls-ish. Rather uneventful, light, and innocuous. Not disgusting. Pull-back top - very old school.

Bottle. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, white head. The aroma is very malty and wort like, with some fruityness. It’s thin on the palate, with low carbonation. The flavor is grainy, fruity and wort like, not super interesting and not very good either. Lacking big time on hops. Certainly not a beer I’d drink, even when in Egypt. 120218

[284-20070503] 330mL (c/o GregClow, w/ him, blankboy, jerc, mds). Very sweet caramelized toffee aroma. Clear, light yellow pee body with a disappearing bubbly froth on top. Tastes like watered-down liquid caramel with some floral notes. Light body. Not repeatable.

Can in Hurghada, Egypt. Tried it just for the curiousity. But what to say? Just another droopy malty beer missing that essential ingredient... Little or no distinguishing features; par for the style.

Can. Pale golden beer, fast fading white head. Thin worty aroma. A nasty combination of metal and urine. Flavour is sweet and simple, worty and pissy as well. Watery finish. Not good.

Pours pale gold with a ton of sediment floating around in it. A thin white head forms and quickly disappears back into the liquid. Smells sweet and grainy. What grain that is I cannot place though it doesn’t smell like the usual barley, rice, or corn. Oats or spelt maybe. The taste is almost the same as the smell though somehow way more offensive. Flat and watery on the palate. Avoid!

I have to agree with Jacob. This is water and chemicals. I did'nt see it was a low alcoholic beer first, but it was very unpleasant and undrinkable. Too bad that all moslems have to drink bevarages that contain alcohol in the black alleys and in the thair secret romms and back rooms where Allah does'nt see them!
