Very citric nose, and obviously Belgian yeast (whether it is really Orval yeast, or something collected from a bottle...), very determinative of the character. Citric, slight Brett-notes, wet cloth flavour, some light malts. Quite refreshing, medium bodied, quite slick. Interesting beer. It’s certainly no Orval, so no sacrilege done. Quite drinkable. Scauca (306), Lovere, Italy Aug 12, 2008 Drank both bottled and tap, I’d like the latter best, founding it more mature and attenuated, with the peculiar yeast’s character far more developed. Nice funky, Belgian esters and honey malt base to a nice bitter dry end. A very nice beer throughout. MartinT (4475), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 11, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Pineapple-like esters rise from the expressive yeast as a tart twang follows the white wine vinegar fruity impressions. This Wild Belgian-style Ale is a tad too simple as is, but this yeast could swerve into crazy mode any time I suppose.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the hazy blond
-The mouthfeel is quite light and the carbonation rather low.
-This was fermented with Orval’s wild yeast.
-I imagine this needs to age more to let the yeast express its funkier, less vinegary side.
-The overall result was still quite drinkable and pleasant.
