Cask: Special - JDW Autumn 2010 festival
Leonardo di Vincenzo has travelled from Birra Del Borgo brewery to Everards brewery in Leicestershire to re-create this beer especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It is deep amber in colour, with an aroma combining spicy malt with caramel and ripe-fruit notes, leading to a flavour of smooth malt, soft chestnuts and delicate honey hints, plus a long aftertaste of roasted chestnuts.

>Clear medium to dark red brown to amber color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, nutty - chestnuts, overripped fruit, roasted notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20101029]

JDW Autumn 2010 Fest. Fruity, soft, warm - elements of red wine, almost port like, honey, almonds - dry finish, vanishing into peanut skins and a faint bitterness which returns to linger. Alcohol and plastic. Very nice, though too sweet and jammy up front.

Cask (handpump) at Lord Moon Of The Mall (JDW) on 1 November 2011. Quite handsome dark copper - even, er, chestnut, colour. Lasting beige head. Rather handsome. Some butterscotch on the nose. Slightly nutty flavour with berry fruit too. A twist of bitterness at the end but, overall, fairly low on hops.

Draft at Churchkey. Hazy amber color, scant head. Aroma of caramel, subtle nut. Pretty plain caramel taste, very sweet. Sono d’accordo con Lorenzo, it needs moore complexity.

This is one fat beer with an aroma reminding me of sweets. It’s very alish in its aftertaste and not really my cup of tea. Nothing wrong with the handycraft however.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading] Deep amber, moderate creamy head. Sweet treacley malt aroma. Taste is dominated by wonderful roasted chestnuts. Lots of hazelnut too. The treacle and sweet malt is still there behind it all, and there’s some green leafy hops too. Just a hint of bitterness, but this is all about the sweet smooth chestnuts. Lovely stuff.

Cask at The Central Bar JDW. Pours dark copper with a light, filmy beige head. Mild malt aroma with caramel, sugar syrup and nuts. Flavor has light to medium sweetness, with decent caramel and bread notes, faint maple, and some modest earthen hops. Light bodied with fine carbonation. The finish is quite dry, a little bready and sweet, with just light bitterness. Very basic character overall but not altogether bad.

Cask Conditioned Handpump Moon On The Square Northampton. A flat looking chestnut coloured beer with a warm nutty aroma featuring some honey sweetness and a real grapey note. There are bizarre boozy liquour notes in the mouth with the same characteristics as the nose. There is typical Italian madness in this. It’s too sweet and dysfunctional.

From cask at The Turnhouse. Pours clear and golden orange to hazzlenut brown with a small tan head. Aroma is mild fruity and caramelish. Light fruity, malty and caramelish. Vague nutty touch. Sweet and rather subdued bitterness.
