09/05/2013 Open Baladin (tap). Brina, intensa, impenetrabile, schiuma bianca abbondante e discretamente persistente. Al naso sentori di nocciola, lieve metallico, malto, caramello, leggero amarognolo. In bocca è delicata, un po’ insipida, caramello, leggera liquirizia, non lascia il segno. Corpo medio, inferiore alle attese, carbonazione soft. Manca di carattere.

Sample from 75 cl. bottle. B.B. 2007. Dark brown colour with a small, off-white head. Sweet aroma with caramel malts, fruits, hints of burnt sugar, licorice. A light yeasty touch. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body, creamy texture. Finishes sweet with rich caramel malts and a hint of fruit. Nice, not outstanding beer, even 6 years to late...

Gedronken met benzai, joes en dutchdrebus, bruin/rood van kleur, bijna geen schuim, ruikt en smaakt zoet, bitter, alc.

Bottle @ benzai thx to ansjelaah. Coca cola colour with a small tanned head. Smells sweet, malty, raisins. Tastes sweet, raisins, malts, sweet, brown sugar. Medium body, fizzy carbo.

Bottle, bought @ LIVA, Kolding. Pours deep chestnut red with some floaties. Small, creamy, white head. Aroma has mild citrus hops, grass, caramel. Medium carbonation, fine dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good malts, light chocolate, citrus, light plums, mild pepper. Very mellow and easy to drink.

Bottle Deep dark brown color. Roast, caramel and tobacco in the aroma. Full bodied. Roast, caramel, hopjesvla, vanilla and milk chocolate in the malty sweet flavor. Pleasant.

750ml bottle, cloudy dark amber-brown hue, with a bubbly beige head, with a yeasty, juicy, ripe apple, prune, fig fruitiness nose, with some candi sugar, raisin pie, faint date square, subtle cinnamon, nutmeg spicy accents, with a faint brown sugar, grainy toasted, caramel, biscuity malt, granola nut bar note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet yeasty, ripe apple, juicy raisin, pruney, dried fig fruity character, with some candi sugar, toasted, caramelized, biscuity malt, raisin pie, organic apple juice, brown sugar flavors, with an apple granola bar, croustade, spicy cinnamon backbone, leading towards a sweet fruity juiciness, candi sugar, faint lingering grassy hop bitterness finish.

marrone scuro con riflessi porpora, turbia e sedimento in sospensione [SCHIUMA] color beige, fine non abbondante e media persistenza [OLFATTO] profumi torrefatti, lieviti, un leggero vanigliato che si mescolano con un fruttato che ricorda frutta matura e sotto spirito, complici evidenti note alcoliche [GUSTO] imbocco dolce con flessioni tostate che lasciano il passo a sapori alcolici, leggermente speziati e una tono amaro finale terroso che lascia la bocca leggermente allappata [TEXTURE] corpo medio basso, anche se mantiene un minimo di morbidezza al palato, carbonazione bassa, alcohol evidente [COMMENTO FINALE] una strong ale di chiara influenza belga che abbassa un pelino la buonissima media dei prodotti Borgo provati fino ad ora. Non c’è niente che stona, più che altro è quello che manca. Birra un po’ piatta, priva di un corpo consistente che accopagni la spiccata alcolicità ed il concetto di birra da meditazione che la presenta. Si passa con troppa fretta da un tostato inziale un po’ avaro di sensazioni ad un alcolico privo delle tipiche sfacettature ed apporti gustativi che ci si aspetterebbe. Diciamo che rimane un prodotto nel complesso ben fatto ma manca di rotondità ed impatto.

75cl bottle courtesy of Julien, split with 77ships during our raid the Delirium Cave extravaganza. BB 12/2011, lot# 295. Brune acajou, col beige fin. Arôme malté grillé, fruits noirs, bouquet sucré brun. Palais est épais avec un profile mis avant assez conséquent du caramel et des fruits noirs. La bière montre un peu son age mais reste très buvable. Le tout est néanmoins épais au palais avec une profondeur caramel et chocolatée qui reste tout au long de la dégustation. Une pointe de malt biscuité se note en léger fin de bouche, cela est couplé avec une brève note houblonné procurant une amertume qui bien que en retrait se ressent au palais. En ce qui me concerne, une influence certaine d’un style allemand tout en gardant une base belge vers l’abbaye. Bonne mais reste épaisse à boire, même à deux personnes.
