Bottle. Dark orange amber, massive bubbly head. Interesting nose - apple juice(?!), some honey, touch of breadiness, touch of yeast/ester character also. Juicy bittersweet palate, lots of honey, tiniest touch of zest, some bizarre cider-like notes, the emmer (or what I think must be the emmer) comes through in a sort of bready characteristic. Sweet, round finish with more of that emmer/bready/hefe character coming through in the linger. Really odd, but pretty tasty nonetheless. A good summer beer.

Bottle from Tanakaya. 75 cl. Aroma of lemony hops, some grass, clean, light honey and biscuity malt, refreshing as hell, if not so complex. Almost clear golden, with a soapy, thick head. Maltier in the mouth, with bread, lemon, grass, herbs, soap, earth. The emmer comes through in a grainy, bready way. Not sure it adds to the flavor. Refreshing, wheaty, crisp, and nice hops throughout, but the nose is better than the taste. Sweetness is restrained, as is the fruit, and the finish is nicely hoppy, getting yeasty as we neared the bottom of the bottle. Very drinkable.

330ml bottle at 5.8%. Pours gold with a medium, frothy head. Aroma is dry straw, some bread, tiny hint of lemon. Taste is straw, little lemon, touch of apple. Dry finish. A little dusty.

Mortlach (955) - Rome, ITALY - JAN 10, 2012
26/03/2011 750ml bottle.

Tap. Listed at 5.8%. Nose is a little funky, fruity and well fun. In the mouth it stradles a fine line between a traditional farmhouse saison and the less interesting modern take that most brewers seem to employ for the style. Some ripe fruit, mainly apples and some pineapple, bubblegum and a hint of dirt and blanket with a decent length to the finish. Not bad.

On tap in Baird Taproom, Yokohama compliments fo Jonno. Clear amber saison. Nose is bubble gum, light fruits, bit of peach and lemon. Taste is fruity, bit of that bubble gum and tiny bit of farmyard earthiness too.
