3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
11.1 oz (33cl)Bottle from Boise Co-op. Poured into Duvel tulip, lazy carbonation, suspended particulates, thickish body. Deep golden cloudy pour, smallest of heads. Floral herbal aroma, some cheese, some mustiness. Graininess in the taste, close to a witbier, but I think it is the alternate grain (spelt) which is driving this beer’s character. I’ve had this style before in Germany. spelt is an ancient food grain.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at Hobgoblin. Mildly fruity with floral and earthy notes, pear, lemon, yeast, not much else. I guess that’s what a decent macro-kind of saison would taste like...

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured out of the bottle a pale yellow amber color. 10ºSRM.
Nose is sweet sour lke a just ripe dark plum. There is an interesting orange aroma to the nose, which smells like a ripe navel orange or maybe a tangerine or a kumquat. Sweet and tart at the same time.
Mouthfeel is watery. There are pale malt, wheat and flour flavors, Almost no carbonation.. The wheat gives the palate a light smoky component which becomes especially apparent in the aftertaste. The palate overall is sweet, and tastes like a fresh sweet roll. Very pleasant, light and certainly very approachale.
Good entry level, introductory ale. Again, I’m getting the impression that Birra does these interesting and rather understated ales that are likely to be overlooked for more brash and obvious craft brewers.
Goes on Favorites List!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Food Show on sale for ¥400. Pours a fairly clear, light gold with a small white head that lingers throughout. Some yeast present as well under the head. Pear, green apple grapefruit, orange juice and lemon zest on the nose. Taste is sweet and lightly tart with a funky Belgian yeast character on the palate. Soft carbonation with just a hint of milky texture...lacto maybe? Finish is crisp and sweet, with a very slight dryness.
