375 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 3/2013. Pours moderately cloudy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon, pear, grape, apple, clove, pepper, bread, light honey, floral, grass, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast ester and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, grape, pepper, bread, light honey, clove, grass, floral, herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, bread, pepper, clove, light honey, grass, herbal, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; with good flavor robustness and no cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice saison style. All around good balance and compexity of malt and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

@ DŘE festival 2013. Golden coloured and hazy. Has a white head, medium duration. Hoppy, herbal aroma. Flavor starts sweet, then bitter, hoppy finish. Dry and creamy texture. Soft carbonation.

Tap at Gar Eden. Light golden colour, small white head. Aroma is earthy, slight citrus hoppiness, slightly Belgian triple bizarrely, fruity too. Smells stronger than it is. Tastes stronger too. Is this really 5.8%? Belgian feel again, fruit and booze. Not much carbonation. Get the herbal thing but surely this isn’t a saison. Too full on. Tomato juice in the background. It’s ok, but something not quite right for me.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Golden pour with a white head. The aroma is full of grass and lemons. The flavor is orange, lemons, wheat, grain and spelt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Duchessa in a typical 330ml bottle which is unusual from Birra del Borgo, 5.8% from Rakuten. Quite dark for a saison, kind of a dark orange/amber gold. This is evident in the aroma with a sweet caramel malty aroma in play. The flavor is sweet malty with a hint of spiciness from the saison yeast but overwhelmingly grainy. I am not sure where they were going with this but as a saison it is a miss. The flavor profile reminds me of a cheap English Ale. I don’t recommend it, it’s pretty drinkable but much lower quality than Birra del Borgo’s other beers, check those out instead. As a beer I’d give it a 3 as a saison 2.3.

La Duchessa č secondo me una birra molto beverina, scende bene, con gusto, senza troppi fronzoli o giri di parole. Si sente il farro ma non troppo. Ha un colore fantastico! Splendente!

Very malty sweet saison. Some yeasty notes in aroma. Some tartness, however not as refreshing as expected. Not bad but not what I expect a saison to be. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. 5.8%. Best before 12.09.13. Pours a cloudy to murky orange with a big, but diminishing, off-white head. Okay lacing. A bit tart, sweetish, citrus hop aroma with a light peach note. Remote minty note as it warms. Sweetish flavour, citrus, mild yeast and a milky note. Finish is sweet with citrus, a slight perfumy note and a milky/light coconut note. Lingering hops. A bit too much carbonation. Overall so-so. Not bad as such, but doesn’t do it for me. Also, the milky notes were out of place. 29.06.13.
