Birra del Borgo Genziana

pours a hazy gold with a small white head. nice fresh, tropical, white grape, hops, aroma. i could smell this all day! flavor of coriander, flowers, vanilla, peaches. a delicate, light bodied beer. reminds me a little of a white beer. this would be great in the summer.

Bottle from State Line. I like Italian beers. The bottles are interesting and unique, the styles are often interesting and always unique, and you never know quite what awaits you once for open the cap or pop the cork. This one pours turbid canary orangy with a 1-finger, fluffy off-white head, great lacing, and numerous small particulate floaties. The nose is dry florals, orange zest, hopcitrus, apricot, and spicy yeast. The flavor is dry, floral, spicy, yeast, with apricot, peach, orange zest, and hopcitrus, all combining to form a velvety palate that is so smooth I almost thought this one was nitrogenated. Nice complexity.

These crazy Italians and their crazy beers, it’s hard to fit these into neat little categories and one never knows what to expect when opening them...which is what I love about them. Experimentation is great in the beer world.

Okay enough with the spiel. Down to business. Pours a hazy gold with a generous well fed head. Smells a bit like a witbier at first with some citrussy sweet elements and dry malt. As the beer warms, it starts to take on some saison like qualities with a nice funky hint emerging. Tastes of citrus, lightly bitter, grassy, earthy, gruit like. Mouthfeel is a bit lacking and watery but the finish yields some straw and hay. An unusual beer to be sure.

Tasting 06/15/08 Thanks bu11zeye again! This beer pours a cloudy off yellow. the aroma is flowers and (windex(yes I know weird) but in a good way. the flavor is very floraly. Cheers!
