Cola brown body, beige off white head. Sweet, buzzing hop nose. Floral gums. Initial taste is neatly hopped, fizzy and rich enough malt. Blindfolded itís not a Black IPA at all, finish is resin and the lightest roast without being coffee. Linger is clean, more bitter and still fizzy.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle from Eataly Bari, served in a pint glass. Ruby red colour, pretty intense and clear looking, with an off white head which leave good lacing. I can see why itís not called a Black IPA. Tired aroma herbal hops, burnt caramel, slightly toasted malts, roots and earthy notes, a hint of soap and perhaps a tiny bit of coffee in the background. Doesnít really smell like a typical BIPA to me. Taste-wise: moderately bitter, mainly with a resinous sensation and a slightly toasted aftertaste. A bit of cardboard as well. It reminds me of a "traditional/old world" English IPA personally, and I would have never guessed that it was a BIPA/CDA in a blind tasting. Medium body, soft to medium carbonation and creamy texture. I was expecting something totally different. Nice, but in my opinion one dimensional and a bit underwhelming. "Hopefully" just an unlucky/old bottle...

Bottle. Pours brown with beige head. Aroma is resin slightly soapy. Flavour is malty with notes of caramel and toasted bread. Hoppy resin notes with a high bitterness. Not hoppy enough for my taste.

17-NOV-2013, bottle @Morten.
Hazy amber with huge tan head.
Aroma is soap, grape fruit and pine.
Taste is soap, spice, tired hops, licorice. High carbonation, medium body. Not black, not really roasted, nor really a Black IPA. Nah!

Keg North Bar Leeds 12/11/13. A dark brown coloured beer with a white head and lace. A nice hoppy dark beer. Sweeter than our BIPAs with caramel and chocolate notes. Hops are good though for sure. Tasty and moreish with a nice body. A bit of a grassy edge. Lots of oranges. Liked this a lot although stylistically an inbetweener.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dark brown with full tan head and heavy lacing. Upfront aroma of citrus, pine needles and fruity Belgian esters. Taste is quite sweet - bready malts, Belgian notes and lots of citrus. Lots of flavour for such a low percentage beer. Lingering citric bitterness. Really solid drop.

[10/14/13] Draught at Open Baladin in Rome. Very dark amber-brown color with a beige head. Aroma of citric and piney hops, some maltiness and a fruity note. Flavor has some sweetish maltiness with a bit of caramel, light fruitiness, a light roasty touch, citric hops with piney notes and a bitter finish, a bit grapefruity. Medium-bodied. Nice.

6% draft glass at Rokko Diner. A very dark brown with a bit of a reddish quality to it with a beige head & a hoppy citrus & mild funk aroma. The taste is medium-full bodied, citrus hoppy then rich dark malts with a touch of chocolate. Quite nice

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In short: A very hoppy (piney) and well malted (nutty, caramel) Black IPA. Good beer.
How: From a bottle at Montreal Mondial 2013.
The look: Cloudy mahogany body topped by a persistent small beige head.
In long: The hop-dominated nose is very scented-pine-tree with resinous undertones. Decent mouthfeel with medium body, texture a bit chewy, medium carbonation. Taste is nutty caramelized cereals. Almonds and an enormous hops presence that tastes like freshly cut pine-tree. A clean and crisp bitterness with only light resinous notes. A good Black IPA. Iím not sure what a hoppy cat is, but I love cats and I love living with a cat and I love my cat, all the time it spends grooming itself and vomiting makes me feel like Iím living with a supermodel.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle picked up by my dad in a Eataly, Genoa, late Sept/early Oct 2013. consumed at home Saturday 12th October 2013 Pours black with off-white head. A very hoppy nose with some resiny pine in particular showing. Mmmhh.. this is a tasty decent black IPA, there are flavours of caramel and roasted malts coming through but this is very hoppy and the finish is bitter and dry. Really like this. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
